Is anyone here a CFI or can someone recommend a CFI - preferably Houston area based?

Yes to both.

What airport is closest? I did my instrument with American Flyers at Hooks. They were good about progressing me through and have plenty of DPE contacts. West Houston was closer, but their school was a mess.

I have one other guy that has a 172 out of west Houston, but not sure if he's still instructing. I can PM you his info.

Where are doing your rotory out of? Interested in starting that myself.
I'm doing mine at Veracity Aviation in Seguin. There's also a location for them in Georgetown and Pearland.

Got your PM thanks. I live and work inside near the galleria so there's not really one airport that makes that much sense compared to the others as far as distance goes.

Both of the owners are longtime CFI's, and connected to the Houston area community.

Thx Oryx. Did you start out with fixed wing already, or straight to rotary?

I started right away from rotary, although in hindsight having a fixed wing ticket first would've been better. I'm only going up to PPL right now for the time being since getting to commercial is expensive.

All of my flying is indoors on MS Flight Sim. It allows me to drink and fly inverted at 500ft across the Atlantic. Ready for August 18th so I can buzz Kyle Field

Been looking for this photo for a while. When my favorite pilot got her wings in 2012, we got to go out to the RCU (small control tower on the runway) to watch operations. Also got to stand on the side of the runway and take pictures.

Sweet ride! Like your panel. Great combo with the 430 and 750.

Is that a Cherokee 6? What's your cruise performance?

That is an old pic but I really like it. I replaced the 430 with a 650. Also, window is now a one piece.

I bought a 45 minute plane ride at a charity auction last month. Today we did it. I took my kids, and I sat in the back seat

This was my view

Flew out of New Braunfels, over my mom's house near Buda, over downtown Austin, Lake Travis, Canyon Lake, and back. My kids LOVED it.

Those are some serious legs at 9.2 gph and 170 kts.

Thanks for sharing the video. Lots to digest there. I see aircraft thread through weather like that all the time, but I'm too scared to do it myself. I don't fly through convective sigmets, so it makes a go/no go situation easy. I'd love to be able to though. Helps if you're in a a fast turbine aircraft with on board radar.

Somewhat, but mainly because I enjoy the challenge of knocking the leaves off. Defoliant is the most unforgiving chemical I spray, it doesn't drift at all so you have to make sure the application is as close to perfect as possible. If you come off your line more than 3 feet you're guaranteed to have a green streak, and getting the field edges and corners requires playing the wind to get coverage.

It's a lot of work but very rewarding to see the results, and Ag Cat's have a great spray pattern that make the work look that much better.

I burn closer to 16 gph @170 knots at altitudes under 8K. Pic is misleading. I keep my CHT under 400F.

Also have Garmin 500s.... it is a great machine for IMC and Xcountry.

........Same with you on weather, I don't have radar and fly IFR quite often but avoid thunderstorms in the area especially or always avoid at night. The weather pic I posted, by the time we made the turn at Corpus, the storm was thru Boerne. We were outside of Houston at that time, in and out of the clouds and could see the bad stuff.

We should go flying sometime Capt, maybe to Llano for some BBQ.

Got to fly in the front seat of a TBM 900 series last weekend. By far the most plane I've ever had the opportunity to ride up front in. I don't know if I'll ever get to the level where I'm flying something like it on my own, but it was awesome just to see where I could get.

So for the wanna-bees among us, the "Smarter Every Day" YouTube guy has a couple of nice videos of the T-38 and the Thunderbirds F-16. He got rides in each, and some really nice video. Gives you small idea of what it's like to fly these things.

Fun fact, those two (the people, not her boobs) are air traffic controllers in Illinois. Her boobs are nice too.
That explains it. I've watch several of their videos, and never seen her fly, but she seems to do most of the talking with ATC.

Interesting thing on https://www.adsbexchange.com/ right now. A continuous line of T-6 Texan IIs escaping Pensacola for Chatanooga, TN. Have been 15-20 in the air at a time for the past hour.
