At least check VATS every now and then, if VATS says you have a 36% chance to hit the head I would assume down the sights is the similar.

your weapon accuracy stats matter as well; if you're using a rifle with some decent mods, you should be hitting them virtually every time your crosshair is on them.

This. It's all about the mods. Early weapons like pipe rifles aren't able to get highly accurate, even fully modded out. Once you get into sniper rifles and rail guns, they're dead on every time.

Perks help out a bunch too. I always grab Macready early and get his perk that adds 25% accuracy for head shots.

I guess that's my issue. I'm not having fun slogging through hours of gameplay with terrible weapons. Maybe this game just isn't up my alley. I really want it to be, because everyone seems to love it so much. But when I sit down to play a game, I find myself continually avoiding it.

You gotta use vats early on, it's absolutely crucial

And sneak. The game will be tough for about the first 20 levels. After about lender 50, you have the opposite problem. You kill everything in a few shots. There's a scaling mod that I really need to download.

Question that might cause spoilers

does setting up the MILA stations ever trigger a quest or reward, or are the quests continually regenerating like the various minutemen quests?

After about 5, there will be an item available that increases your armor significantly. After that, they are just regenerated like the minutemen quests.

Not true. The Ballistic Weave is only available after the first quest from PAM. Only found this out because I did several MILA quest and it never popped up, did one of PAMs quests and bingo.

Thanks for the correction. I finished those quite a while ago.

Finally beat it this weekend. I don't know if y'all have covered this previously in this mega thread, but which final faction did y'all consider the "good" one? I expected it would be the Railroad until I finally entered the Institute, and while the Institute's actions and motives didn't make much sense (why were they replacing people and being such jerks to synths?), siding with them and choosing to rule the Institute with a benevolent hand sure seemed a better final ending than murdering a bunch of unarmed scientists to make the railroad activists happy.

Plus, man, disappointing Father made me feel bad.

BoS seemed like a bunch of jerks, so I didn't work with them much this first playthrough. On my next playthrough, I'll suck up to them as a Zapp Brannigan character with 10 charisma, 10 luck and nothing else, then see what happens.

That's almost exactly why I did the same thing.

I red something about the possibility of some underwater missions or something.

There is a file embedded in the game for a harpoon gun that someone messing around was able to access though the weapon never appears in the game itself. You combine that with the ghoul dolphin that you can find dead plus the large portion of the map taken up by water and the detail put into underwater landscape has provided a strong suspicion that Underwater content is coming.

I thought the dolphin was just a Jaws reference

Deep sea underwater stuff always freaks me out. Just an ominous feeling. That sounds terrifyingly awesome.

I believe that it was an easter-egg but it also provides a basis for underwater enemies if they go that way... it's just another piece of the puzzle that people are putting together.

I was expecting the institute to be underwater or on an island out there when I first looked at the map. They definitely have something planned for that space. Probably a "Fallout does Bioshock" kind of adventure.

Here's an overview of the first DLC packs
https://bethesda.net/#en/events/game/fallout-4-add-ons-automatron-wasteland-workshop-far-harbor-and-more/2016/02/16/77

Automatron (March & $10)
quote:

The mysterious Mechanist has unleashed a horde of evil robots into the Commonwealth, including the devious Robobrain. Hunt them down and harvest their parts to build and mod your own custom robot companions. Choose from hundreds of mods; mixing limbs, armor, abilities, and weapons like the all-new lightning chain gun. Even customize their paint schemes and choose their voices!

Wasteland workshop (April & $5)
quote:

With the Wasteland Workshop, design and set cages to capture live creatures from raiders to Deathclaws! Tame them or have them face off in battle, even against your fellow settlers. The Wasteland Workshop also includes a suite of new design options for your settlements like nixi tube lighting, letter kits, taxidermy and more!

Far Harbor (May & $25):
quote:
A new case from Valentine's Detective Agency leads you on a search for a young woman and a secret colony of synths. Travel off the coast of Maine to the mysterious island of Far Harbor, where higher levels of radiation have created a more feral world. Navigate through the growing conflict between the synths, the Children of Atom, and the local townspeople. Will you work towards bringing peace to Far Harbor, and at what cost? Far Harbor features the largest landmass for an add-on that we've ever created, filled with new faction quests, settlements, lethal creatures and dungeons. Become more powerful with new, higher-level armor and weapons. The choices are all yours.

This isn't all. It will all told be over $60 worth of content. If you buy the season pass for $30 before March 1st you can lock in the lower rate, after that the season pass will be $50 or buying all individually at the time they release will cost you over $60.

Triple A game companies always think their content is worth $60. We'll see.

Wasteland Workshop and far Harbor sound pretty cool...I want to set up deathclaw cage matches vs any super mutants or raiders that encroach on my settlements

Well it's not what they think, but what they will charge. And they plan on charging you over $60 if you buy everything separately and not a season pass. As of now I plan on buying the season pass before March so I can get everything for $30.

Not gonna lie...those DLCs sound pretty terrible except for far harbor.

I want more game content instead of gimmicks.

Build your own robot companion? You can already do that with mods.

Cage and fight monsters for your entertainment? You can already do that with mods. Hell I don't know how many arena fights are on Youtube already.

And the Season Pass price hike is infuriating. And I already own it!! I know everyone knows bethesda is a greedy company. Always has been. But to see it unfold time and time again in real time still sucks.

Love the games admittedly though so I guess I'll just keep paying...and that's what Bethesda wants and expects.

Far Harbor sounds intriguing. The rest are meh. I was wondering if they'd put out a DLC sending you to Nantucket island, home of the ol whaling fleets and authentic early-American architecture. Far Harbor sounds close enough to that vague idea.
