What kind of builds/perks are you guys going with? Anything you regret so far? I have 2 perks for lock picking so far and like those. Also I love lone wanderer. I hate companions, except dog is okay just to carry my stuff.

I got the perks for finding extra ammo and caps and kind of regret both of those as I haven't noticed a huge difference. Maybe I need to boost them again. Also I thought scrapper would be really useful (getting rare items from scrapping guns and armor) but it's really not all that great. I don't pick up enough weapons or extra armor, and when you do scrap them you get an extra screw or two.

Thinking about maxing life giver with my next 3 choices.

I was reading a few reviews early this morning that were advocating styling your player as a melee style attacker. Apparently if you couple your perks just right, you can lay waste to even the toughest foes in the game with no effort at all.

I'm a ninja/sniper

I could easily see how the melee build would work. Lots of perks to boost damage. Just need to be able to take the hits getting in that close.

There is a perk (Attack dog) that you can unlock in your own perk tree but other than that I haven't heard anything

Came across my first major glitch. I found an area near the Robotics Park where I clipped though the ground, appeared above the ground, then fell through it again.

FYI there are a couple quests that never end. Ones I have discovered so far are Cleansing the Commonwealth and Feeding the Soldiers quests.

I think this was patched or i just could not for the life me of get it to work. Many attempts...

I just did this about 2 hours ago.
Which platform? I heard it doesn't work with XB1. I only got an hour into the game then had to head offshore, hoping to get back at it Thursday night.
On XB1 i was able to do it last night with a fresh character, but failed numerous attempts (after i confirmed it was working) with my main character.

Going to try a few more times tonight but don't want to waste another hour trying
I can't get dogmeat into the vault... he starts down the platform but when the vault loads, he's gone.

Idk if attack dog is worth it...
I've been playing on survival without it, and I'm fine.

If you're gonna run with dogmeat, must have perks are lone wanderer and inspirational. I'll probably invest in attack dog later.

So after reading up on settlement attacks and how people built up to or close to the green line and ended up having raiders/ghouls/super mutants spawn inside the settlement (supposedly the spawn points are near or on the green line and if you build too close they may spawn inside) I revamped my entire Sanctuary.

Previously just had some walls and turrets with the walls way too close to the green... Upgrades:

- Dual junk gate sandwiched around a "death alley" ... Used the rug trick to bring the gates right up next to the alley walls which are multiple shack foundations butted up to each other. On top of the foundations are turrets and manned guard posts.

- built a large prefab wooden shack across the street (and death alley) from the first existing house when you come in from the bridge. This is basically a bunk house for the guards and it also has a turret and spot light on the roof.

- the existing house across the street also has turret/ spot light combo

- turrets placed the length of the wall ever 3 fence squares or so along the river bad behind the cul-de-sac, no turrets on the back yet but I will probably go for a few on the houses just to give some cover (do raids come from the vault side?)


- Moved the walls on the "back" side of the sanctuary in and utilized the existing houses as part of the walls .. Only concern is that is something does spawn back there they can shoot in the Windows/holes in the houses but they can't enter the settlement.

- the crown jewel is my still work in process tree house, one level off the ground, currently two stories tall (though missing a roof ... I may build up a third story by I am thinking no) all the walls are balconies so it's got a cabana feel to it. First level currently has bed, sitting area, and bobble head holder, second level is very open and is where I have relocate my power armor rack and my two suits. Ran out of steel so I need to go scavenging, I want to really deck out the house as my own personal bachelor pad.

During the two hours or so I was building I got 2 levels and 3 settlers putting me up to 11.

I am about 20% from the building limit (on PS4 so no way around it) I am considering doing a bridge over to one of the existing houses and seeing if I can build another smaller building on there. (Not sure if that will work out too well)

I am not sure if I will try to max out Sanctuary or if I will move over to red rocket and/or Abernathy farms

Rocket is just sitting there ... No people no resources but I saw some incredible builds there in Reddit. Abernathy is producing food like crazy but lakes any defenses (I plan to atleast remedy that as I have set up a supply route)

Ten pines is in the same boat as Abernathy and I just opened up the drive in and I have it at a good spot ... 5 settlers with 20 defense and 15 combined food + water.

So after putting in around 30 hours the honeymoon period is fading away and there are a few things now I can say I don't particularly like. First being the settlement building. Not the idea but the actual process. They really need to fix their collision issues and there needs to be a way to level ground. They built a system of lines and grids that objects religiously adhere to....then proceed to make all terrain broken up and awkward to place things on. My biggest gripe to date. Also the lack of a system for actually controlling the settlement would be great. Having an overall screen where I can assign settlers would be awesome instead of hunting them down.

And something I find myself missing more and more. The Ammo crafting from New Vegas. I never really realized it but I used it a lot more than I had thought I guess. I loved it. Kinda bummed they took it out of 4. Maybe they thought it would be too much? I can maybe understand taking out the crafting part but having different kinds of ammo was pretty neat I thought and true to real life scenarios.

If they could implement something like the base management from MGSV for settlements I would be happy. The terrain etc. are things I can deal with, I have used the rug trick to good effect which has minimized the "floating wall" effect and collision issues.

Trying to place barriers drives me nuts. You'd think they would make them auto-lock together like the normal fencing does. I end up getting them as close as possible and then I fill in the gap with fence posts.

It makes things easier, but the structural physics aren't exactly the best. One site I made a small fence around the house and the farm, then just did a double stair case and linked a gigantic platform off of it so that I could place a few of the larger pre-fabs. Looks a little odd just floating in the air, but it does the trick.
