Here's an idea, lets go back to the 1960's/1970s, or even the 1980's when men, women, and children dressed as though they were attending a special event or occasion. Now its people wearing pajamas, ass hanging out, bellies barely tucked into the tank top. Dudes looking and smelling homeless and don't get me started with the females. Why, unless I'm going overseas, wife and I drive every where. Air traveling is nothing more than a glorified Greyhound bus.

When you tear out a man's tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you're only telling the world that you fear what he might say.

Ah. That makes more sense.

More to the story, for sure. I hate when people instigate (albeit this one is tame) and then play the "woah is me".

Don't try to piss people off. General good lesson in life.

You're right.

If you wear a red MAGA hat (not in this case) to a liberal area, and get your ass kicked, well, that's on you! Lesson learned!

No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm just saying people should be smarter.

Curious, do you guys just look for stuff to get you angry everyday? It seems there are several random stories like this that get posted to Texags everyday.

New here? Not sure this board would exist if people didn't need a place to complain about things that have no impact on them.

If the airline has a clear policy on profanity on their planes or if asked to remove because of profanity our, remove the hat!!! It's their plane.

Good lord.

There was zero part of this that was about safety.

It became about safety once cuss word hat wearing moron refused to follow flight attendant directions. If the FA can't trust you to follow the simple instruction to remove your hat then they do not trust you, nor should they, to follow directions in the rare event that an emergency occurs.

The fact that some of you think this is all a huge affront to conservative values is the most laughable thing I've seen on the internet this week.

He was removed for wearing the hat. Your argument is like saying I got spanked for disobeying my parents instructions when they told me to not eat the cookies until after dinner. I ate the cookies before dinner. I got spanked for eating the cookies! There would be no instructions had he not worn the hat in the first place! Good grief!

No way. Flying in the 70's/80's was miserable because we forget that people smoked on planes.

Yes, but remember you are also paying relatively cheaper prices. Flight tickets have not kept up with inflation. So quality has suffered and it is now a flying Greyhound.

This is largely the fault of the consumer. Airlines know that when passengers look for flights 9 times out of 10 they will pick the cheapest option. It's why they offer those basic economy fares.

With the exception of the first pic, none of those are actual planes that flew. They are all promo photos taken on sets that are bigger than the actual aircraft.

Several years ago, pre covid I was taking a flight out of Knoxville and it was the smallest plane I had ever been on. was a 1-2 set up with no overhead bins. I was sitting towards the back third of the plane leaned out into the aisle and snapped a photo to send to my wife which happened to include the cockpit (door was open). The flight attendant came barging down the aisle from the back telling me I had to delete the photo right now. When I asked why she said, "It's against the law for safety reasons, because of 9/11".

I knew that was absolute bull **** and there was no law saying I couldn't take that pic. I also knew I wanted to get to my destination and didn't want to get booted off the plane. So I apologized saying I had no idea, showed her that I deleted the pic, and then promptly shut the **** up and enjoyed my Diet Coke.

I don't care enough about being right to get kicked off a plane, arrested, or put on a no fly list.

Why do people insist on promoting their political views and opinions in non-political arenas? Nobody cares if you are conservative or liberal on a plane. You aren't important enough to change anyone's mind. Then, to wear a hat that has mild profanity on it just shows that you are the actual ass. The guy was begging for someone to say something so he could get attention. Well, he got it. Good job Delta.

Yeah... that's a marketing photo of a 747 mock up.

Trust me, the 747 is my favorite aircraft and I flew on them for 45 years from the mid-70s until the end of the 2010s. None of them looked like that.

Final trip was Perth to Sydney in Business Class at the end of 2019.

Also that hat has a cuss word on it. I've heard of pilots telling people with inappropriate language on clothes that they have to cover it up.

Not talking about the planes, could careless about the planes. I'm talking about how people were dressed when flying through the friendly skies back in the day. My point being not having everything hang out and actually take pride in not smelling like last months land field. But hey, if that's y'alls thing more power to you. I prefer not to have to sit behind the fish smelling lady.

Not sure if it's the following, but it could be. Many years ago, my undergrad gave out Engineer's Rings. They represent being a member of the Order of the Engineer. They're worn on the pinky finger of the dominant hand.

Serious answer - in the 1980s and prior, Engineers used to get an Engineer pinky ring.

When listening to the video you hear the gender dysphoric pilot emphasize his actions were based on safety and that's the key to him asserting his authority. Like it or not the legal argument ends there. He cited a "safety" concern so from there own out it was a waste of time to argue otherwise. I'd be thankful to get off the plane, as was noted earlier being piloted by someone with obvious issues some deem as unacceptable and also a possible safety concern.

According to the FAA

A pilot is the final authority on the operation of their aircraft, which includes the power to enforce the airline's contract of carriage for matters of safety and operational necessity. This authority, however, does not make them the sole or final enforcer of the contract in every circumstance.

Here is a breakdown of a pilot's authority regarding the contract of carriage:
A pilot's authority over flight operations
U.S. federal aviation regulations establish that the pilot-in-command is directly responsible for and is the final authority on the safe operation of an aircraft.
In the context of the contract of carriage, this means a pilot can override the agreement if they believe it compromises flight safety. This authority can be used to:
  • Remove or deny boarding to a passenger who is a safety risk.
  • Divert a flight to an alternate airport for safety reasons.
  • Make decisions during emergencies that may conflict with an airline's standard operating procedures but are necessary to protect the aircraft, crew, and passengers.
Contract terms enforced by airlines and the DOT
While the pilot handles immediate, in-flight decisions related to safety, other parts of the contract of carriage are enforced by the airline's corporate departments and the Department of Transportation (DOT).
The DOT, not the pilot, is responsible for enforcing rules concerning:
  • Refunds for canceled flights or services.
  • Compensation for denied boarding due to overbooking.
  • Lost or damaged baggage claims.
The airline's own employees, such as gate agents and customer service representatives, are responsible for handling these contractual issues on the ground, but their decisions can be reviewed by the DOT if a passenger files a complaint.
