The NWS provided warnings. An evacuation plan was being executed. A major issue is that the evacuation point - thought to be high enough ground - was not high enough for the freak level of this storm and terrain. That said, it may be 50-100 year freak but not necessarily unprecedented or "this won't ever happen again" freak, so what is ultimately rebuilt - or not - will need to be carefully considered. That said, the beauty of this planet we live on involves risks to consume it and develop as humans in it. We can't remove all of it.

Yep, people are attracted to the riverbanks and the serene nature and recreation and it draws us closer and closer and then occasionally reminds us how dangerous it can be in very rare instances. It's almost unavoidable, because it is so unpredictable and we go generations or lifetimes between catastrophic floods, so people become complacent.

It is better than it used to be with flood plain calculations and some regulations on newer construction but the reality is we are drawn to the waterside, and always will be.

Out best bet is deploying a little modern technology to issue warnings. If we can do it for lightning and tornados, we can do it for floods. It just needs to be planned and standardized.

No one claimed Democrats caused the Hawaii fires, the east coast Hurricane, nor even the California fires. The criticism regarding California was about the state's resource management malfeasance.

Difference was they were weeks delayed and massively unprepped. To the point that private helpers like Cleetus McFarland were getting grounded with threat of arrest before their dip**** governor mobilized the NC national guard. Volunteers were making liberal leadership look bad.

Meanwhile, Biden was vacationing on the beach, when it was a predicted hurricane that slow rolled its way up. Biden was still sending billions to Ukraine, while nothing was done for Appalachia. Also fema was reported as actively dodging Trump voters since it was an election year (this was caught on tape).

Comparing the 2 is idiotic. They had weeks to prepare as opposed to maybe 45 minutes.
