I think two things can be true.

1. A camera here would most likely have done nothing to stop this or any other nut job from committing suicide by plane crash. I won't say for certain because a camera would be a deterrent only. And in this case they almost certainly know which person pulled the fuel cutoff. They (the Indian Govt) just didn't want to release it.

2. A camera would see things going on in the cockpit that the pilot's union does not want the public seeing. Things like pilots taking naps. Pilots horsing around when they shouldn't. Pilots making mistakes that they get away with. You know, things that go on in any profession.

I got over people watching me at work a long time ago.

Yup....

The CVR and FDR don't keep any accidents from happening, they are a tool to figure out what happened if something goes wrong.

Employers do indeed surveil their employees all the time on the job.

Hell, courts have held (last I checked) that an employer has a right to access your personal email if you have ever used their computer or internet to access said mail. Doesn't even have to be their equipment. You access it on your phone connected to their WiFi and you have e granted them that access.

I am fine with cameras in the cockpit. In my rare defense of GAC06, he is dying on the clarification / distinction that it would not have made a difference in the crash this thread is about. I tend to agree. This isn't about a guy getting a handy from his copilot when they are bored. This appears to be a deliberate rate act by a suicidal pilot. No camera prevents that.

It's another useful set of data that may help on some crashes.

Just no kiss cams in the cockpit, please.

I want to say trains not only have video of the cabs, but now many of them allow for remote instant viewing so the managers can real-time look in on the crews.
