Why is he even over here? If this big bad Russia problem is going to impact us here it's going to impact the rest of Europe first. He needs to take this appeal to Europe. Take it to the Germans that laughed when Trump suggested they stop buying energy from Russia and buy it from the US. The EU wants us to support all of this on their continent but they aren't interested in paying equal tariffs on our goods or buying our oil and gas instead of Russia's.

Ukraine is not in a position to negotiate. They need us to assist with that. If they give us minerals, in exchange for leverage, they can negotiate peace.

Both sides want peace except for the western intel and defense communities that want a russian regime change and forever wars. Russia is not a threat to the rest of Europe or the US. Make a deal and stop the killing. Keep Russia close instead of driving them closer and more dependent on China and Iran. Let them sell gas to Europe. That is not "siding with the Russians". That is the right thing to do.
