They apparently have steel barricades that can be 'erected' around Bourbon street but were not for NYE. I missed it but has an explanation been provided as to why they weren't up (these are just mechanically raised)?

I now see the community note that they were upgrading these so maybe that is it.

('Diversity bollards' in the replies made me laugh).

This improvement pending might explain the target selection.
If we were Britian, we would allow Muslims to sue and call us racist for putting up such barriers to Muslim F150 drivers.

So... in your perspective...

2 cars are rented from Turo
Both cars are EVs.
Both had IED.
Both are set to detonate on the same day... New Years Day.
1 in NO at the French quarters and full of people.
1 in Vegas at the president-elect's hotel and presumable full of people.

Both, mere coincidence.

Wow.
Add...

both Turo rentals were driven from out of state...
Texas to NO
Colorado to Vegas

Both guys were/are in the Army...

The number of intersections are remarkably "coincidental."

Its' probably been discussed in this thread way back - what is the connection to Bryan. I saw KBTX put something out but the city rebuffed those accusations. Killer had relatives here or something? Fake news?

Relatives once had properties in the area.

When the only two people you see reporting it are Alex Jones and (t)Rusty Surrette.....

You know it's done for clicks.

I wonder if that scissor lift or whatever he ran into saved many lives. Looks like his goal was to make it further down Bourbon Street to get close enough to detonate the devices, run over more people, and have a more controlled exit from his vehicle to start shooting.
Have seen reports that he had remote detonation devices in his truck. So that would be my assumption. His intent was to drive by to detonate those preplaced further down Bourbon Street.
I was thinking the same thing. That lift likely saved countless lives. I thought that truck had went much further, but only a couple of blocks.

I am wondering if they were thinking that they would get those batteries to ignite and cause more damage. How hot do those batteries burn? Assuming they also have to have special equipment to put them out. I am assuming the blanket they pulled off of the truck in Vegas is an example. Do fire departments carry that type of equipment with them nowadays?

While I agree that NOLA is lacking in good governance, blaming any of this on them takes away from the fact that a radicalized Muslim did this.

While they have a duty to do their best, ultimately in a free society, no amount of government can protect us. Keep your head on a swivel and a gun on your hip.

Yes, but part of "being on a swivel" is for officials to not overlook the obvious. Do your upgrades any damn week OTHER than the ones you are needing maximum security for. This actually should result in a loss of pension for some officials.

No disagreement that they fudged up... I am just more upset at feds that have allowed this influx that in turn has created more issues at local and state levels.

If you're wondering if government can or will protect you, ask a young girl in England.

I looked into the background of Matthew A. Livelsberger, the 37-year-old from Colorado Springs who drove a Turo-rented Tesla and blew up at the Trump Hotel in Las Vegas in a huge explosion.

Livelsberger is also a U.S. Army veteran, like the New Orleans ISIS terror suspect. Livelsberger's LinkedIn is no longer online but there are ghost remnants of his background:

Special forces intelligence sergeant
Defense analysis and strategic studies degree from Norwich University

Denver7 reporter @TonyKovaleski says Livelsberger served at the same military base as New Orleans jihadist Shamsud-Din Jabbar

How can someone with special forces experience plan and execute such an impotent attack?

Must have been confused with special ed forces.

From what I heard, there was fuel in the back along with fireworks.

The question for me would be if there was fertilizer.

The OKC bomb was essentially diesel and fertilizer.

He may have tried to replicate what they did in OKC. The fact he just pulled upside is another clue. He could have driven it into the building.

They make portable bollocks. Could alternatively put big concrete planters out.

But when your DEI hyper focused granny police chief and all her DEI sycophants are running the show, common sense goes out the door and people DIE.

Given we just had a vehicle attack in German Christmas markets mere weeks ago, it's criminal incompetence by her and her staff. Not holding my breathe for her to resign or be held to account.

Kinda.. but Adam Smith outlines what a govt should actually do and one of those is to protect citizenry from threats foreign and domestic. He outlines 3 total uses of govt and that is one of them.

So much this.

There are dozens of different, inexpensive ways to temporarily secure the street and sidewalks to vehicular traffic without causing a pedestrian backup.

Complete incompetence on the part of the City of New Orleans.

So it looks like there actually was a police cruiser there that was presumably to block vehicles. And he simply drove right around it on the crowded sidewalk to begin his attack.

He was probably not actually SF. Probably an intel guy assigned to the Group Support Battalion or the HQ. He would've worn the SF patch, but wouldn't be an 18 series (SF MOS) or have earned the SF tab.

Doubtful. Even if he did, the fireworks probably wouldn't have enough energy to detonate the ANFO.

Got it. No one else involved, but we're going to bring people from around the world to the location.

Maybe just station an officer with a rocket or bazooka at each end of the street. Something that can quickly destroy and stop a vehicle.
Due to diversity requirements some of those men will be followers of islam.

Got you. Of course wouldn't have a trace of those. Goes back to the idea of who wouldn't even allow near power plants.

Also, what is shown in the photo only blocks the road. Since the barrier was down, they had a squad car there to block the road. Terrorist drive around on the sidewalk, so that barrier would not have mattered. They need pole barriers on the sidewalk as well to stop cars (maybe that is what they are installing now, I don't know).
