Been watching this story for last few days… curious if anyone has any thoughts? Doesn't seem like anyone including FBI has a clue…

Never underestimate the creativity of someone who likes screwing with people. 2x4s and rope gave us the glorious crop circle documentaries that have become History Channel's revenue stream.

The Balloon Boy Hoax, The Balloon Boy hoax occurred on October 15, 2009, when a homemade helium-filled gas balloon shaped to resemble a silver flying saucer was released into the atmosphere above Fort Collins, Colorado, by Richard and Mayumi Heene. They then claimed that their six-year-old son Falcon was trapped inside it. Authorities confirmed the balloon reached 7,000 feet (2,100 m) during its 90-minute flight.[1][2][3][4] The event attracted worldwide attention,[1][5] and Falcon was nicknamed "Balloon Boy" in the media.[6]

Why are we allowing it over restricted airspace? They would be easy to take down, yet we don't? Am i wrong?

If an autistic kid can track down a potential murderer in NYC within 30 mins by tracking e-Bike data, someone can track exactly where these are coming and going with speed, altitude, etc.

I'm considering all of the videos hoax vids until we get a city sized space ship parked above a major city for a couple days......

Sure it's easy to take down. But then it has to fall somewhere (or on someone).

Anyone else remember the drones over the missile fields at FE Warren that conveniently disappeared right as the pandemic started? Did we ever get an explanation on them?

My cousin lives in N NJ and sent me a video last night of a drone over her cul de sac. She was asking if I knew what they were (since I do UAS work for a living).

It was a quick little thing.

C-UAS is probably not being done at most locations.

Either people are seriously misjudging the size or it is a hoax. Something the size of a car could not stay covert, particularly when trying to move it around and launch or retrieve it.

I heard the size of a "hood of a car", which isn't really that insane in terms of the end-to-end length and width a drone could be. People keep thinking these drones are the actual size of cars.

People are terrible at estimating sizes of things even in clear weather and daylight. I'm not surprised at the variance in sizes reported for these things, whatever they are.

Especially women right? There's no basis for words like "cute" or "perfectly normal." They have no idea what they are talking about.

There are ag drones made in Richmond, TX that are 10 feet x 10 feet. That is pretty big.

That sounds reasonable for a military drone or I guess a delivery drone, but damn!

Thoughts from today's Coffee & COVID blog: https://www.coffeeandcovid.com/p/ufo-drones-monday-december-9-2024
Quote:

I researched drones that could fit the profile, information invisible in most of the media reports. Two categories of drones are at least as big as a small car. First, prototypes of "flying cars" drones that, if the FAA ever allows it, could be used for personal air transportation. You can't buy one, so you could say they are priceless. You definitely can't fly them without special FAA permission, not without breaking a zillion laws. It's unclear why flying car developers would risk huge penalties to test their prototypes like this instead of doing it legally and in the clear.

The second possible category are the cargo drones. These are autonomous flyers, like hobby drones, except bigger. They're operated by remote control, but unlike hobby drones, they carry a substantial payload. Amazon, for example, has been testing delivery drones in this category. But more common are military drones used to drop bombs. These drones cost from hundreds of thousands up to millions of dollars, if you can buy them, that is.

Whatever scofflaw is flying these drones is committing felonies right and left, some serious. Commercially available drones above the $100 range are equipped with GPS, and they are all programmed not to fly near sensitive sites. So, between the size, cost, and apparent lack of software limits, they strongly suggest a military origin, not least because who else would be so unconcerned about all the potential criminal liability, should one of the drones malfunction, land, and be captured?

Well at least the military is not using predator drones over US cities.

I've got an airframe sitting at the house right now i never quite finished building that about the size of a car hood. Not that hard for a hobbyist.

The only way what is being reported couldnt be built in your living room is if they're able to withstand the very serious countermeasures the .mil has. Nothing about them operating where they are is outside the capabilities of your average FPV drone, and things like ardupilot have been able to do it for years.

People forget that drones are not that terribly complicated.

I would think they are our drones but I would think testing classified systems that they don't want to disclose.

But who knows? By them not saying anything they make it worse.

Those people on that thread need to add more tin foil to their hats.

You cannot hide a nuke or dirty bomb going off. If one did, everyone would know it.

As for claiming that there have been dozen of WC-135 flights over the area, that is just some idiot spreading hysteria.

There is a huge flight tracker community and none of them have noted any unusual WC-135 flights. There have been a few over the US, but that's normal because training flights happen regularly.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

I notice they're flying them in an area where people won't shoot them down.

Fly that in a rural area of just about any county in Texas or the south and pictures of that drone will be everywhere.
