Assisting illegals get further into the country thus attracting more illegals with free transportation.

He is only bailed out of this idiotic move if trump can deport every illegal Abbott helped domestically and attracted with this political stunt. And yes I believe trump would have won without Abbott's idiotic free rides for illegals stunt.

Ha ha ha! That is some funny trolling. Oh I read down a little further and you kept it going. Too funny.

Anyway, free rides for illegals saved our tax payers millions in school costs alone? Hospitals? How many Texans were not raped and/or killed because we bussed out, what a hundred thousand illegals let in by the federal gov with no real vetting?

Yes, we passed the buck and now the whole country knows the pain of not shutting down the borders. Keep the busses rolling until there are no more crossing the border.

Incentives for illegals. Attracting more. I can't stop laughing.

Or hear me out. Politician in purple trending red state who got into office in 2020 under dubious ballot results and just watched his long serving colleague (Casey) get beat starts moving to the right ahead of his reelection campaign in 2026.

You must have missed where Abbott was deploying floating barriers and razor wire only to have the feds physically remove it and fight him endlessly in court. He finally threw his hands up and said, ok you want to be a sanctuary city, prove it. He had the mayors of NYC and Chicago squealing like a stuck pig over a few thousand people. They cried uncle and fought him every way they could and he kept pouring it on.

Sometimes you can tell a kid the stove is hot, other times you have to let them learn the hard way.
I did not miss any of that and was probably one of the most vocally in support of Abbott deploying floating barriers, razor wire, etc and actually wanted him to keep going further in regards to securing the border. The feds were abstaining from their responsibilities thus Texas had every right in my opinion to secure the border regardless of jurisdiction because Texas would never had joined the union if they knew the feds would act that way. My issue with Abbott's bussing illegals is he had the buses going north instead of south.

And yes you can view leftists as a kid that needs teaching, I'm all for the learn the hard way politicking and wished we did more of that just not at the expense of our border. Or you can view them as politically incompatible and the only way the war can be won is by beating them into submission or parting ways. It's not much of a war won if you stay married to a significant group of people that were still willing to pull the lever for a hard leftist like Kamala after the disasterous 12 years we've seen with Obama and Biden. The kids you think will learn a lesson by touching the stove clearly are not learning any lesson from their other bad decisions.

How exactly could he bus them back to Mexico? Do you think Mayorkas would just let him?

You're on the wrong side of this issue. Immigration was not as pressing as inflation and the economy until Abbott started making them feel the pain. I must have watched dozens of videos of black men and women openly complaining on social media "why are they getting cell phones, staying in nice hotels in Manhattan, PLUS getting monthly stipends? This is some bulls**!!!"

Abbott forced immigration as a way to show the black population that they were being replaced with a new crop of voters who were getting much nicer stuff than they were getting. Jealousy is a powerful emotion and this channeled it into hatred for the Biden administration.

I'll take that as you have no rebuttle since you are focused on the free transportation comment and do not understand it for what it is. Government sancationed transportation with zero consequence of deportation. It's a giant billboard saying feel free to cross illegally and if you turn yourself in, instead of being deported we will relocate you if you like the destination.

You also assume leftists will learn from the err of their ways, which I'm all for trying but not at the expense of keeping the border open. Secure the border. Send illegals that are here up north if you cant deport. But absolutely do not leave the border open AND send illegals north. That is asinine hoping leftists change their ways when the lesser risk path is simply securing the border and dealing with the fed attempt at consequences.

He simply directs the bus drivers south. When the federal government actively works against their duties at the detriment of the states, I firmly believe that we are now working in a gray zone where the letter of the law can be skewed. I know I am in the minority on this but I view that as our founding fathers not looking for a legal way of dealing with the British but rather a that's wrong so I'll do it the right way and deal with the consequences. Texas would never have joined the union if the federal governemnt was going to leave the border open and refuse to deport illegals.

And I have agreed several times above that I respect the method of making people suffer from their voting ways. I just dont trust those people to change their votes in the long run and view this method as a short term win rather than a long term win. I think the significantly bigger change in votes was the democrats sprinting left (abortion, student loan forgiveness, globalism, DEI, open borders, etc.) rather than walking left and people are giving Abbott more credit than the effect shows. But that is just my opinion and I'm not willing to bet an open border on the leftists ability to learn from the err of their ways.

OK give some examples? I can provide plenty of links to social media posts where blacks were enraged at the illegals in hotels and all the free stuff they were getting. That doesn't happen unless Abbott busses them to New York and Chicago.

Immigration was a hot topic in Texas obviously but it wasn't a big deal to the NE until they had to start experiencing it. I'm no Abbott fan boy, far from it, ESPECIALLY after Covid, but I give credit where credit is due.

Exactly. Abbott is the worst governor in Texas history and should be sitting in a jail cell, not the governor's mansion. This political stunt only entrenched more illegals in the country. Giving him credit for anything to do with illegal immigration is a joke.

Not that simple. Mayorkas would stop it with the feds and yes, it would make headlines for a week and would be a bad look for the Biden administration, but the media would carry their water like they always do and the NE would never view immigration as a top priority.

Explain how MORE are entrenched. For simplicity sake lets say Abbott bussed 100,000 to Chicago, New York, Martha's Vineyard and other areas. Would you rather the 100,000 stay in Texas harder to detect or stick out like sore thumbs in those areas where Homan can more easily find them and deport them starting in January.

Perhaps I'm missing something. Are you implying more immigrants came across the border because of Abbott bussing them?

Remember when he implemented truck inspections that actually worked, then abruptly stopped them a week later? That was a measure with teeth and would have done something had it continued. It just goes to show that the one thing he did to actually put pressure on Mexico was too much.

Also, deploying the DPS to the border and trespassing illegals before handing them to the BP is another political stunt. It allowed Mexico to refuse their return because of their criminal record. He's a joke.

I must have watched dozens of videos of black men and women openly complaining on social media "why are they getting cell phones, staying in a nice hotels in Manhattan, PLUS getting monthly stipends? This is some bulls**!!!"

Abbott forced immigration as a way to show the black population that they were being replaced with a new crop of voters who were getting much nicer stuff than they were getting. Jealousy is a powerful emotion and this channeled it into hatred for the Biden administration.

I think the significantly bigger change in votes was the democrats sprinting left rather than walking left and people are giving Abbott more credit than the effect shows. But that is just my opinion and I'm not willing to bet an open border on the leftists ability to learn from the err of their ways.

Exactly. Abbott is the worse governor in Texas history and should be sitting in a jail cell, not the governor's mansion. This political stunt only entrenched more illegals in the country. Giving him credit for anything to do with illegal immigration is a joke.

It certainly hasn't deterred them.

Not that simple. Mayorkas would stop it with the feds and yes, it would make headlines for a week and would be a bad look for the Biden administration, but the media would carry their water like they always do and the NE would never view immigration as a top priority.
It is that simple. Yes, Mayorkas could and likely would stop it and yes it would make the headlines, but your point about the MSM carrying water and NE minimizing the immigration issue has merit though your solution relies on them changing their voting habits long term.

Abbott's bussing illegals north certainly has changes a lot of peoples minds on the importance of illegal immigration, but I think there isnt as many that changed their vote for this reason alone. It's the sprint left that caused a temporary change of vote.

If Biden governed as a moderate Democrat (rare if even possible) and they ran a moderate Democrat this cycle instead of Biden/Kamala, I do not think Abbott's bussing would have made that big of a change in people's voting habits. Yes a good amount of northerners would be frustrated with the illegals, but they likely still pull the lever for the left since they still supported Biden/Kamala the past two cycles in significant numbers. Thus showing, in my opinion, that leftists are not learning in a significant way from the consequences of their votes.

We want the same goal, but I'm not ready to praise Abbott until I see a significant shift in the voting population abandoning leftism.

If Trump is able to significantly lower energy costs, which in turn, would lower inflation, I think you'll see a significant shift to the right in this country.

I don't see the Democrats going back to the middle anytime soon as they have to take the opposite stance of Trump, which is pro-war, big tech and pharma, and higher taxes.

Yeah what a horrible governor. Can you imagine having the gall to behave in ways that follow the wave of sentiment among your constituents?! It's an abject failure of democracy when the government falls into the hands of the local people whose power created that government. Kissinger must be rolling in his grave.

Exactly. Which is why I'm not in favor of praising bussing illegals further into the country as a solution to the illegal immigration problem via trusting leftists change their votes.

A better plan to advance a conservative agenda is to focus on the drastic shift left the Democrat party took, which is what MAGA focused on, and use that as leverage to win the populace shift to the right. Then the illegal immigration problem can be addressed.

Bussing illegals north certainly helped push people to the right, but I think there was more negatives (attracting illegals since we were advertising an open border with no deportations and government sanctioned transportation), though I'm hoping Trump can correct that with mass deportations.

It was never about deterring them. It was about exposing liberal hypocrisy in regards to immigration.

Some of your are as beholden to your hard right ideology as the radical leftists are to theirs. Under this administration the illegals were coming unabated and Abbott's efforts to control the border were limited due to jurisdiction and what he did try to do was restricted by the administration at every turn. As an added bonus the other 46 states had no skin in the game on this issue because Texas was living it but they weren't.

Then he started bussing them north and the tide turned in a big, big way. The entire nation came to understand this is a massive problem that must be addressed. Some of you are saying that if Trump can deport them maybe that will bail Abbott out of this decision without even a hint of understanding that this move played a significant role in Trump winning. This move impacted the election in a big way. Suddenly we had people willing to speak out against this problem in ways we haven't ever seen.

The mayor of NYC cried uncle and criticized the administration for their border policy, saying it would bankrupt his city. For his honesty and daring to get off the plantation he got attacked by the DOJ which showed a substantial portion of the population that the lawfare wasn't just against Trump but against anyone who dared cross the administration. This lay bare the abject corruption of the left and destroyed any pretense that the federal government under democrats was capable of doing good.

Trump may have won the Electoral College without this but you can argue the votes he got in impacted blue states created the mandate from the popular vote win.

Fantastic synopsis, and needs more stars.

Sure, all of us would have loved to send them all back or not accept them in the first place. But the feds fought that every step of the way. Your grief is with them and not Abbott or Desantis. Your assumption is the popular vote win was due to Abbott's bussing illegals north which is a false premise. Yes it helped some but the significant popular vote gains were because democrats went hard left and maga was the voice of reason. People seeing the effects of illegal immigrants first hand certainly helped but it's foolish to assume the popular vote win is justification that Abbott did the right thing.

The risk/reward equation is TBD where I think there is more risk and you think it's more reward. Anyone claiming winning the battle or war is naive because the endgame entirely depends on trumps mass deportation and border security plans AND leftists changing their long term voting habits to the right. That is the reality and too many people are spiking the ball claiming victory before we've reached the end zone.

I don't think you're completely wrong with this perspective.
I don't think anyone on these threads is completely wrong, because when the federal government completely abdicates one of its only legitimate duties, it creates a situation so fundamentally broken that there is NO such thing as a perfect, satisfying solution. (It's like all the recent fights about reclining seats on commercial airplanes. There simply isn't enough room for all passengers in Coach to be comfortable. Their conflict is a result of the airline's seating configuration.) We all want to fix it in our way, but ultimately we are trying to fix something that cannot be fixed. All we can do is mitigate some parts of the damage, and our mitigation steps will necessarily make other parts a bit worse. We shouldn't have to be here, but here we are, and it's messy. Let's all give each other a bit of grace to recognize that instead of attacking each other for not perfectly solving the problem, we should be figuring out how to combine out efforts to steadily nudge all the components of this issue toward our shared desired outcome, even though the steps we take will necessarily be painful, contradictory, and at times will require a step backward in one area in order to gain three steps forward in another.

Keep in mind that we're only here disagreeing about this because the power class deliberately did what they could to make sure 10-20 million people walked right into the country. Our fight needs to stay focused against those internal enemies. Not against each other for different approaches of how to deal with it. And, in my opinion, not even against those 10-20 million. They behaved rationally in the best interests of themselves and their families. It would have been foolish of them NOT to take advantage of the opening they were given. I don't hate or begrudge the illegal immigrants, and I think it significantly damages our cause to focus on the immigrants themselves.

"We are very sorry that you are now suffering and living in fear because the controlling factions of our government made bad choices and incentivized you to come here outside the legitimate process. They had no right to do that and we are working to keep them from doing it again. Unfortunately, the Democrats and some Republicans succeeded in turning you from a person into a political problem, and in order to right some of their wrongs, we must send you back and ask you to return using the legitimate processes."
