What I was thinking. Yesterday I noticed people were asking about Grassley's position on Gaetz since he had remained silent up til then. Then I see this in the morning.

Leverage? Grassley holding up some papers and having his own Perry Mason moment? But not putting them in the Congressional Record unless he has to?

Things that make me go, "Hmm."

I would venture a guess it is saying both parties need to get in line or there will be some mutually assured destruction happening.

We have video proof of Dem staffers (recorded and released by themselves) doing butt stuff in the congressional chambers and nothing happened to them. The only reason this is a thing is because Gaetz upsets the apple cart. He has gone on record as wanting to dismantle the ATF, restructure the DOJ and drain every last drop from the scum of the swamp. So he is enemy number one because they think they can harm Trump's mandate by taking him down

The last thing he would do is sue for slander/libel.

He could probably fend off an allegation here and there, but the guy is as dirty as they come and he doesn't want that in court.

That Domenech article is pretty brutal, and I don't think he'd be saying those things without any worry of defamation if there wasn't more coming in the ethics report. Guess we'll find out at some point.

It does seem like he could have been dropped out there to distract from the other nominees, with the added bonus of getting him out of congress ahead of the report. If they pull him at some point they can just offer him another role that doesn't require approval.

This. If he were just anti-establishment, he would still get confirmed.

His behavior in the House wasn't just disruptive; it was destructive. Add to it some questionable personal ethics and he's created a lot of baggage for himself that will be difficult to overcome. He made his own bed.

If just the thought of Gaetz is enough to run these swine out of the DoJ, then let us put this to the Senate and go through the process with the Strzoker Aces and Super Patriots thinking they need to get the hell out.

Either that or they'll downplay it as not nearly as bad as the Dems people. People seem to be more and more dismissive of the importance of character, and think there won't be any repercussions.
The last thing I want is for this administration to screw the pooch because of selecting knowingly bad choices and then things go south and it it becomes a gift for the Dems campaign in 4 years.
