Maybe he believes Gaetz is the right person for the job and will do what needs to be done. It's his administration and he can nominate who he wants.

Only Trump knows the full scope of his objectives, but I get the sense there is a very detailed plan and he knows who he wants as his generals. From all appearances, he's running a tight ship this time.

I don't think he cares how the press, Democrats, or squishy Republicans feel about it. He has a mandate and he seems to be laser focused on making good on his promises riding on the good will and massive support of the American public. If there are any Republican Senators that voted for Merrick Garland but say they won't vote for Gaetz, they are putting their political careers on the line.

ETA: The leverage comes with all the Rs that voted to seat Merrick Garland, they have promised to primary them if they do not support Trump's cabinet. Thus, the Musk statement and him not shuttering his PAC until the next election is a big thing.
This is an excellent analysis. I think Trump has chosen his man for the job and intends to get him confirmed. Republicans that are thinking about opposing him better think again.

Todd Blanche as the Deputy AG was a great pick and much closer to what I was expecting.
