While I don't particularly care for the Gaetz nomination, I would have loved for him to have the chance to fire McCabe, preferably by going to his office, hoping on top of his desk, and dropping a load on it. Maybe they can reopen the IG probe and stop his retirement?

New session, not current…and I don't think it would stop at least a couple of the HFC folks, Gaetz being one of them…

I personally get the feeling that there was a deal cut…

Look at Johnson's movements on election night…

He was in Louisiana when polls closed…late in the evening, and before PA was officially called, he got on a plane and jetted to MAL to be seen on stage with Trump at his victory speech…

They have been working together behind the scenes…

And as far as Thune goes, I have a hunch he was told that if he would play ball with Team Trump, they would back him (and with the tailwinds of "national mandate", that endorsement carried serious weight, so he decided to play ball)…

Again, all of this is my speculation, but it all seems to line up pretty well…

Love your imagery there but very doubtful the IG would reopen a probe at this late date, barring an actual confession by McCabe of very serious wrong doing. But McCabe likely doesn't even need his pension at this point. He has the standing CNN gig and received a nice book advance as a reward, plus for some reason, he is still on the speaking circuit, last I heard.

They have the testimony of Gaetz former friend, who was convicted on other charges, in addition to sex trafficking charges tied to this girl, and the girl herself, who does porn videos. DOJ dropped the case, concluding that the witnesses would not be credible enough to proceed to trial.

Just in case you are wondering, the age of consent in Florida is 18. The girl claimed to be 18 when she first hooked up with Gaetz's buddy, but he later found out (a few moths before she turned 18) that was not true. The trafficking part (paying a minor to travel for sex) is what would have made it a federal offense.

The more I think about it, is there really going to be a public hearing for Gaetz? Would make Thomas hearing look like Sesame Street.

There will be at least one public hearing so all the Dems can do their grandstanding (at least SJL won't be one of them.)

Have to assume Gaetz is preparing for that and will give as good as he gets. Hell, for all we know, Elon might be giving him some tasty tidbits on the Dems. Could actually be quite entertaining.

You just asked and answered your own question. You believe the its deep state propaganda. I find it interesting he resigned before being announced as AG (which wasn't required) and well before he's confirmed (which isn't slam dunk). And he did it just prior to the release of the Ethics Committee report.

And as much as people hate McCarthy (and yet now blame Johnson for the same effort), he and others believe Gaetz engaged in unethical and possibly illegal activities. Gaetz even threated McCarthy with vote to vacate if he didn't stop the Ethics Comm investigation...when he doesn't even control that process.

No one said he's not intelligent. His integrity and loyalty blows with the wind depending on what he thinks benefits him most. And he votes oddly on bills that seem to question his conservative focus.

Criticism and lack of trust does not remotely equal hate. That's just a term people throw out there as a dig these days "they hate all of us, but we don't hate them"....which is BS.

In my opinion, he has baggage, he loves to be in the spotlight (used tax payer money to build a tv studio inside his house) and there's enough concern from other conservatives that make be believe he's not remotely up to such an important role.

I don't support someone just because they kiss the ring and post on X to "own the libs".

I'm sure you have your reasons for loving Gaetz and I have my reasons for not.
