I don't want to suffer through Dem recklessness for years if it can be avoided

It is a clear danger. Everyone assumes republicans would go more conservative. But, they never block vote like Dems do.
How are running roughshod when the R's hold the purse strings right now?MouthBQ98 said:
So you stop caving to Dems by completely empowering them to run roughshod over you?!
Logic.
Safe bet the next speaker is going to give Ukraine lots of new $$$.Robert L. Peters said:

Hate to break it to you, but its not going to get better. What have you seen from todays GOP that makes you think they are up to actually passing conservative policy?MouthBQ98 said:

McCarthys mistake was not trying to get the measures to the floor. I contend it was less than half of the measures would've even passed, and then be officially killed in the Senate. If conservatives won't even start a fight on occasion, we all know where we are heading. The status quo mentality, and only moving on measures for political expediency is robbing us citizens of our future. The Democrats voting in blocks is a much bigger problem than what happened today.MouthBQ98 said:

We will end up with a Democrat speaker and more Ukraine aid then before.
then before... what?Teslag said:Robert L. Peters said:

R's MUST stop caving to D's if we want to save our Republic...
They don't like their polling when the government shuts down...I get it...but it's time to have some balls and say enough is enough...

We are looking at a completely fractured party going forward. What happened today isn't going to benefit anyone except the D's
with trump on the ticket, I see us losing the House as well. too many seats are too close already.rathAG05 said:

Try understanding that McCarthy did more for them (D's) than you. (I assume you are right leaning and would like to see government spending under control)rathAG05 said:FireAg said:Welp...let's at least try an find out...MouthBQ98 said:

And to do so we take out one of our own? Makes zero sense. This isn't governing. It's an embarrassment.
MAGA is the only thing fighting back. Even DeSantis supports this.Ol_Ag_02 said:rathAG05 said:

Dems are experts at biding their time. They pulled it from the CR knowing full well they will get it eventually.
Don't worry, we all know you march in high stepping lockstep!Ol_Ag_02 said:Funky Winkerbean said:MAGA is the only thing fighting back. Even DeSantis supports this.Ol_Ag_02 said:rathAG05 said:

Oh wow. Someone I think would make for an excellent President supports something, then I too must support it. Must not go against my chosen leader.

I don’t care who the speaker is. I care about 23 year mortgage rate highs, 40 year high inflation, a wide open Southern border, 21st century crime highs all over the US, & wages not keeping pace with price increases on basic goods. I suspect 95% of Americans feel the same way.

Quote:
Newly elected U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy took the gavel of the chamber after a bruising weeklong battle within his own party, promising to carry out a conservative, America-first agenda, tackling the immigration crisis at the Mexican border, cutting back funding at the IRS and fixing "woke indoctrination in our schools."
McCarthy laid out an ambitious plan in addressing the 118th congressional session early Saturday morning, saying he wants to "be the check and provide some balance" to President Joe Biden's policies. He said the first legislation he plans to tackle will repeal funding for more than 87,000 new IRS agents. He highlighted immigration reform as a top priority, saying the Republican-controlled House will hold some of its first hearings of the year at the Southern border.
"No more ignoring this crisis of safety and sovereignty," he said. "We must secure our border."
McCarthy claimed he will pass bills fixing "urgent" problems in the nation with an America-first approach. In addition to immigration, he said he wants to address "America-Last" energy policies and "woke indoctrination" in schools, noting that children come first and should be taught to "dream big."
He added that he will also plan to address long-term challenges like debt and the Chinese Communist Party, and he affirmed his commitment to law enforcement and criminal prosecution.
Quote:
McCarthy also revealed some of his priorities for this session of Congress, which included: investigating China, securing the country's border, and attempting to eliminate some of the federal debt, which is over $31 trillion.
"We will also address America's long-term challenges: the debt and the Chinese Communist Party. Congress must speak with one voice on both of these issues," the House speaker said.
He vowed to build a "nation that is safe" and help form a "future that is built on freedom." McCarthy also wanted to construct a "government that is accountable where Americans get the answers they want, need, and deserve."
"Our system is built on checks and balances. It's time for us to be the check and provide some balance to the President's policies," McCarthy added. "There is nothing more important than making it possible for American families to live and enjoy the lives they deserve."
He also committed to "stop wasteful Washington spending to lower the price of groceries, gas, cars, and housing and stop the rising national debt."
"We pledge to cut the regulatory burden, lower energy costs for families, and create good-paying jobs for workers by unleashing reliable, abundant American-made energy," McCarthy added. "Our first bill will repeal funding for 87,000 new IRS agents. Because the government should be here to help you, not go after you."
