It is a clear danger. Everyone assumes republicans would go more conservative. But, they never block vote like Dems do.
Welp...let's at least try an find out...

R's MUST stop caving to D's if we want to save our Republic...

They don't like their polling when the government shuts down...I get it...but it's time to have some balls and say enough is enough...

So you stop caving to Dems by completely empowering them to run roughshod over you?!

Logic.

Hopefully this means Ukraine is also on notice that the gravy train is over.

Safe bet the next speaker is going to give Ukraine lots of new $$$.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Hate to break it to you, but its not going to get better. What have you seen from todays GOP that makes you think they are up to actually passing conservative policy?

McCarthys mistake was not trying to get the measures to the floor. I contend it was less than half of the measures would've even passed, and then be officially killed in the Senate. If conservatives won't even start a fight on occasion, we all know where we are heading. The status quo mentality, and only moving on measures for political expediency is robbing us citizens of our future. The Democrats voting in blocks is a much bigger problem than what happened today.

do you really think Ukraine is not going to get their money?

Dems are experts at biding their time. They pulled it from the CR knowing full well they will get it eventually.

Just because someone said something dies not make it true. Sounds like a rumor from the zoo.

And to do so we take out one of our own? Makes zero sense. This isn't governing. It's an embarrassment.

They only need a few northeast GOP members which isnt' a reach. They'll vote with Dems before letting it burn.

Try understanding that McCarthy did more for them (D's) than you. (I assume you are right leaning and would like to see government spending under control)

Exactly. It's sad, but very true. D's have the worst president in the modern era and we are going to hand all three branches of power to them. ****

Oh wow. Someone I think would make for an excellent President supports something, then I too must support it. Must not go against my chosen leader.

There sure are a lot of "conservatives" here that like getting bent over by the GOP doing the bare minimum and don't want to pull their pants up and demand they stop getting screwed.

But the submissive go along to get along path certainly is easier so I at least can understand the hesitancy to be bold.

Exactly. They don't need it right now. They got 45 days of what they wanted without giving up anything.

At least he talked a good game.

Quote:

Newly elected U.S. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy took the gavel of the chamber after a bruising weeklong battle within his own party, promising to carry out a conservative, America-first agenda, tackling the immigration crisis at the Mexican border, cutting back funding at the IRS and fixing "woke indoctrination in our schools."

McCarthy laid out an ambitious plan in addressing the 118th congressional session early Saturday morning, saying he wants to "be the check and provide some balance" to President Joe Biden's policies. He said the first legislation he plans to tackle will repeal funding for more than 87,000 new IRS agents. He highlighted immigration reform as a top priority, saying the Republican-controlled House will hold some of its first hearings of the year at the Southern border.

"No more ignoring this crisis of safety and sovereignty," he said. "We must secure our border."

McCarthy claimed he will pass bills fixing "urgent" problems in the nation with an America-first approach. In addition to immigration, he said he wants to address "America-Last" energy policies and "woke indoctrination" in schools, noting that children come first and should be taught to "dream big."

He added that he will also plan to address long-term challenges like debt and the Chinese Communist Party, and he affirmed his commitment to law enforcement and criminal prosecution.
Quote:

McCarthy also revealed some of his priorities for this session of Congress, which included: investigating China, securing the country's border, and attempting to eliminate some of the federal debt, which is over $31 trillion.

"We will also address America's long-term challenges: the debt and the Chinese Communist Party. Congress must speak with one voice on both of these issues," the House speaker said.

He vowed to build a "nation that is safe" and help form a "future that is built on freedom." McCarthy also wanted to construct a "government that is accountable where Americans get the answers they want, need, and deserve."

"Our system is built on checks and balances. It's time for us to be the check and provide some balance to the President's policies," McCarthy added. "There is nothing more important than making it possible for American families to live and enjoy the lives they deserve."

He also committed to "stop wasteful Washington spending to lower the price of groceries, gas, cars, and housing and stop the rising national debt."

"We pledge to cut the regulatory burden, lower energy costs for families, and create good-paying jobs for workers by unleashing reliable, abundant American-made energy," McCarthy added. "Our first bill will repeal funding for 87,000 new IRS agents. Because the government should be here to help you, not go after you."
