As much as Biden is championing the unions, if this strike is a long one, it will be Biden that will feel the effects as the economy continues to plummet and prices continue to increase.

Unfortunately, it's not that easy. The rules for a lockout are very prescriptive.

yes, and that's why he'll find billions to give to the automakers (without going to Congress) and they will capitulate to the unions. The only losers will be the taxpayers.

Where are you getting that figure? Strike funds don't have NEAR that kind of money in them...

Upon further review, I forgot how to math on that post. Thanks for calling it out.

500/wk would be roughly 25k a year.

I haven't run the numbers exactly, but if the auto makers simply shut down all operations, I estimate they could drain the union coffers in about two weeks at $500 per employee per week

Why not do that?
If the automakers shut down, they take an hit for unemployment for all the people they lay off.

If the voting/leading morons at the UAW have their way, pricing will be like Japan when I was a kid where housing prices were so high at one point that Japanese banks started offering intergenerational loans !!

Hopefully these greedy morons will end up shooting themselves in the foot like the dolts who struck Hostess Bakeries in KC/ MO when it was teetering on the edge of bankruptcy a few years ago.

This is funny because it is true, was funny 30 years ago and will be funny in 2053 !!

At current truck prices, people ought to consider going custom and getting an older car/truck redone and customized

Just bought a 2002 Dodge Ram 1500 with 112k miles, single owner, great interior, no mechanical problems, no dents, just needs a paint job due to deteriorating clear coat.

Was only $6,400.

This is the way.

UAW endowment is close to or at a billion dollars.

Uaw pres ran on being more militant in negotiations. It's a no win situation for the public taxpayer and buyer.

I worked in the aerospace and defense industry for 30 years so I saw the UAW up close ALL the time. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy...

I was a co-op student when I got my first taste. My desk was wobbly so I asked by boss if we had any tools so I could adjust it. He told me DO NOT DO THAT...I needed to call maintenance and have them do it or I could get a grievance filed against me. WTF moment #1. So I call and they say they can get to it in about 2 weeks. WTF moment #2. But, didn't want to piss of my boss so I followed his directions even though they were stupid.

Then, I was on a program where we had a tech that did a lot of fab work for us. He was making up some parts for us one day and we saw 2 union guys looking over and watching but didn't really think much of it. Turns out, they filed a grievance on him and THEY GOT PAID for the work and he got a bad mark in his permanent record. That was probably WTF moment #5000 for me by that time.

Then, I was on a program where we were doing flight testing with Canada's NRC where they brought their experimental helicopter down. They brought their mechanic as part of their team and part of his normal job was driving the tug to get the helicopter in and out of the hanger.

So, we end up needing to work on Saturday. Well, union rules require that we have to have a union guy with us to DRIVE THE TUG. But, even better, the rules also require that he has a supervisor on hand. Also, they only get paid in 4 hr blocks. Four hours and 0.01 sec equals 8 hrs of pay.

So, the union guy pulls the helicopter out. That was about 3 min. We do 9 hrs of flight testing that day. Yep, that's 12 hrs of pay at time and a half. The union guy pulls the helicopter back in the hangar. Another 3 min.

So, for our flight test period that day, we paid TWO UNION GUYS for 12 hrs of work at time and a half and ONE of them did 6 min of work that day. I think they played solitaire the rest of the day.

But, I did get some schadenfreude one year when the dip**** union decided to strike (even the leadership had recommended they accept the deal but the rank and file rejected that). So, they went on strike in July...in Texas...and got to picket outside all day in that heat. IIRC, strike pay at that time was $200/wk. From what I understand, a lot of those guys would go out and get second jobs to pay the bills during the strike periods...however, the economy was sucking and there weren't a lot of those jobs available.

Six weeks later, the union caved and they ended up getting a WORSE deal than they'd originally been offered. Plus, management found out there were a lot of jobs that "took 6 days a week" to get done that really only took 5 days - they were slow rolling to get that extra day of OT. That **** got shut down after the strike.

Served those peckers right.

Doubt it. All my UAW fun was up in DFW. I'm doing UAS down here in Corpus. Now my complaint is how slow the university works to get everything done.

I do have a buddy who worked with us for awhile here who was also a Huey pilot in the USAF who worked at NAS-CCAD for awhile, though. He might have.

Kind of hard to do when you are like the country dog in city. The government and inflation is trying to screw you if you sit still or bite you in the ass if you run.
We'll win this war, but we'll win it only by fighting and by showing the Germans that we've got more guts than they have, or ever will have. We're not going to just shoot the sons-of-b******, were going to rip out their living G*******d guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We're going to murder those lousy Hun c********** by the bushel-f****** basket. War is a bloody killing business. You've got to spill their blood or they will spill yours. Rip them up the belly. Shot them in the guts.

Economy 'enriches people like Donald Trump'

Quote:

United Auto Workers (UAW) president Shawn Fain made it clear he doesn't approve of former President Trump's trip next week to Detroit amid the union's ongoing strike against the Big Three automakers.

"Every fiber of our union is being poured into fighting the billionaire class and an economy that enriches people like Donald Trump at the expense of workers," UAW President Shawn Fain said in a statement to CNN.
Quote:

Biden has repeatedly claimed he is the most pro-union president, but Fain has yet to endorse the president, saying last week that endorsements have to be earned and members need to see "actions not words," from Biden.

"Our endorsements are going to be earned. We've been very clear about that, no matter what politician."

UAW is set to expand the strikes beyond the currently 3 striking plants if negotiations do not show progress by noon on Friday. The only change I've seen in demands is dropping the 40% pay raise to 36%.

I listened to a segment yesterday morning on CNBC on this and they had a former female NLRB member on for her perspective. It was just another example of the dumbest people work in government. All she did was parrot the Dem talking points and tout Bidenomics as a positive.

A second male guest who is clearly educated on the topic and understands business and the impacts of all of this made her sound foolish which she was.

When asked a pointed question about the financial demands from the UAW potentially putting the auto makers in financial trouble she actually responded with "there is no basis for that happening". LOL! Yes, unions killing a company with their demands has never happened.

Hopefully the Big 3 use all those huge profits they apparently have to hold out for awhile.

They can survive longer than the UAW workers getting $500/week that likely have $1500/week or more in expenses...

Unions are run by greedy, short sighted crooks. I'm not sure why they are tolerated. We've been working to bring industry back to the us and revive our dead rust belt cities and the first thing these crackheads do is **** up a good thing with strikes.

There was literally another outside operator in the control room who could do job, but it wasn't his day to work the area, so nah.

NEW YORK, Sept 15 (Reuters) - Yellow Corp (YELLQ.PK) received U.S. bankruptcy court approval on Friday to sell its vehicle fleet by October, while continuing to market its real estate assets, which have already received a $1.525 billion bid.

The freight shipping company, which went bankrupt in August after a protracted labor dispute, owns approximately 12,000 trucks and 35,000 trailers, according to its bankruptcy court filings.

Yellow has set an Oct. 13 bid deadline for those assets.
