I worked in the aerospace and defense industry for 30 years so I saw the UAW up close ALL the time. You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy...
I was a co-op student when I got my first taste. My desk was wobbly so I asked by boss if we had any tools so I could adjust it. He told me DO NOT DO THAT...I needed to call maintenance and have them do it or I could get a grievance filed against me. WTF moment #1. So I call and they say they can get to it in about 2 weeks. WTF moment #2. But, didn't want to piss of my boss so I followed his directions even though they were stupid.
Then, I was on a program where we had a tech that did a lot of fab work for us. He was making up some parts for us one day and we saw 2 union guys looking over and watching but didn't really think much of it. Turns out, they filed a grievance on him and THEY GOT PAID for the work and he got a bad mark in his permanent record. That was probably WTF moment #5000 for me by that time.
Then, I was on a program where we were doing flight testing with Canada's NRC where they brought their experimental helicopter down. They brought their mechanic as part of their team and part of his normal job was driving the tug to get the helicopter in and out of the hanger.
So, we end up needing to work on Saturday. Well, union rules require that we have to have a union guy with us to DRIVE THE TUG. But, even better, the rules also require that he has a supervisor on hand. Also, they only get paid in 4 hr blocks. Four hours and 0.01 sec equals 8 hrs of pay.
So, the union guy pulls the helicopter out. That was about 3 min. We do 9 hrs of flight testing that day. Yep, that's 12 hrs of pay at time and a half. The union guy pulls the helicopter back in the hangar. Another 3 min.
So, for our flight test period that day, we paid TWO UNION GUYS for 12 hrs of work at time and a half and ONE of them did 6 min of work that day. I think they played solitaire the rest of the day.
But, I did get some schadenfreude one year when the dip**** union decided to strike (even the leadership had recommended they accept the deal but the rank and file rejected that). So, they went on strike in July...in Texas...and got to picket outside all day in that heat. IIRC, strike pay at that time was $200/wk. From what I understand, a lot of those guys would go out and get second jobs to pay the bills during the strike periods...however, the economy was sucking and there weren't a lot of those jobs available.
Six weeks later, the union caved and they ended up getting a WORSE deal than they'd originally been offered. Plus, management found out there were a lot of jobs that "took 6 days a week" to get done that really only took 5 days - they were slow rolling to get that extra day of OT. That **** got shut down after the strike.
Served those peckers right.

UAW is set to expand the strikes beyond the currently 3 striking plants if negotiations do not show progress by noon on Friday. The only change I've seen in demands is dropping the 40% pay raise to 36%.
I listened to a segment yesterday morning on CNBC on this and they had a former female NLRB member on for her perspective. It was just another example of the dumbest people work in government. All she did was parrot the Dem talking points and tout Bidenomics as a positive.
A second male guest who is clearly educated on the topic and understands business and the impacts of all of this made her sound foolish which she was.
When asked a pointed question about the financial demands from the UAW potentially putting the auto makers in financial trouble she actually responded with "there is no basis for that happening". LOL! Yes, unions killing a company with their demands has never happened.
