I was supposed to go to Vegas for the 4th of July. I just cancelled my trip in solidarity with the 45M Americans who are suffering under the yoke of predatory student loan debt. One person is immaterial. However a 45M army is an economic revolution. #cancelstudentdebt

I should have never had to go into debt to go to college. I came from a household with an income of less than $30K for 3 people. I went to a *public* university. It was unjust to charge me $45K a year. It was unjust that I had to take on ~$50K of student loans. #CancelStudentDebt

The Vegas post is a microcosm of the whole issue. It's not the current debt that will hurt you in life. It's the mentality and actions.

I'm watching documentaries of the early Americans. The 1800s. The ones that got ahead? They made short term sacrifices so many now are not willing to do. Many worked 7 days a week, 12-14 hours a day. I'm not saying we need to go back to that kind of extreme. That would be awful. But it just shows you how spoiled we've become when we think not being able to take a vacation is somehow being oppressed.

The problem is, people today want the degree, want to work 30 hours a week, they want to travel, go out on the weekends, etc., and will do those things before paying extra on their loans. 99% of people who took out loans could pay them off fairly quick by either working harder, being more responsible with money, or better yet, a combination of both.

Then CANCEL STUDENT DEBT!!! I had to talk a friend down a few times now. She's a teacher who has put off all her dreams so she could teach. Because they CAN, because no matter how high they raise tuition, kids will be provided the access to capital to pay for it. That's the racket. If these loans were priced correctly, borrowers would be paying usury rates on them.
