To add to that, while you may say classified /=/ national defense information, a criteria of classification is that its release would tend to damage national security, and therefore courts have used "classified" as probative of the second element, as well. To be clear, not determinative, but certainly probative.
And before we go there, yes, there's almost universal agreement that too much information is classified but proper classification is not usually something a defendant can litigate. They can and I know in this case will litigate whether the information was factually classified. They probably will not be allowed to litigate whether that classification was proper in the first place as a stand-alone question. (They will indirectly litigate that by arguing whether or not the release of this information would tend to harm the national defense.)
