The revisionist "party flip" theorist never mention FDR for some reason. The Democrat "progressive darling" that ruled for twelve years during segregation and prior to the "party flip". Democrats and the people that vote for them will always be racist, their entire world view and political strategy is based their hatred of immutable qualities and cultures of others. It's a rotten and destructive political movement that offers nothing positive to society.

Happened over time. FDR was a progressive Democrat who obviously massively expanded the size of government. Then Kennedy and LBJ pushing the Civil Rights Act as Democrats in the 60's caused more switching. Finally the Religious Conservatives becoming firmly Republican during the Reagan era in the 80's.

Scroll down to see 1992 house election map. The super racist super red south wasn't so red after all.

Edited to add more to show the south doesn't get red when you claim they do. Happens over 3 decades after civil right's movement. The cause was seeing how ****ty Clinton was after Reagan.

1996 (first with south predominantly red):

1994:

1990:

1988:

1986:

1984:

There was also a large and gradual shift due to the South becoming less agrarian and more industrialized over time so that companies were able to move or expand operations to the South when previously dominated in the North.

In other words the South became less aristocratic and more pro business economic based which aligned well with conservative Republican values.

It's not kind of...they are.

Anyone that believes in Marxism is, by default, stupid and clueless.
