Ukraine has been substantially abandoned, by the military age male population, I would agree. I think the territory they control is down by around 50% in that demographic, and net population to around 22 million.

It's very sad to debate about mercenary deaths in an 'abandoned' city/nation in a proxy war, amid the misery inflicted by Joe Biden and Putin on the Ukrainian people, among many others.

The tactical and strategic impact of the defeats/losses in/about Avdiivka are significant, though. For a Biden-Nuland Fiefdom, it's unsurprising how the remnant Ukraine ranks in corruption. But hey, he got that prosecutor fired!

In any case, I remain unconvinced that the people who have facilitated deliberately and with extensive planning our own invasion are strategically capable, nor willing to fight the Russian one of Ukraine they by proxy also facilitated;

Why would the populace abandon the town? Haven't you told them how inept the Russians are? You should let them know.

Probably because Russia likes to murder civilians with artillery and missiles and then rape the ones they missed.

Though I'm sure you'll say the residents of Bucha were raped by errant Ukrainian ADA

Its worth noting this post is a long way away from "Russia has no ability to mount an offensive."

So then what is the populous fleeing from? Can't really have it both ways. Did you tell them how safe it is? How inept you believe the Russian army to be?

Are you asking why civilians would want to leave an area where two sides are directly fighting each other?

Is this a real question?

The civilians are fleeing from long range missiles and their effects. The Russians suck at going on the offensive against Ukrainian forces. Case in point is Bakhmut. The Russian military made the battle the main effort, but the Russians opted to use WWI trench warfare tactics.

I'm asking why civilians would flee from an army with "no ability to mount an offensive"

I'm asking how a Canadian mercenary gets killed by an army with "no ability to mount an offensive"

A reworked draft mobilization bill presented to Ukrainian MPs on Tuesday is more "repressive" and "unconstitutional" than the original, Yulia Timoshenko, the leader of 'Fatherland' party in parliament, has claimed. The politician, who served as Ukraine's prime minister between 2007 and 2010, also warned that if passed, the legislation could spark social strife.

In December, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said that the military leadership had proposed mobilizing up to 500,000 more troops. Later that month, the government submitted a bill tightening conscription rules. On January 11, the cabinet recalled the legislation for amendment, and reintroduced it for consideration at the end of the month.

In a video posted on her Facebook account on Saturday, Timoshenko said the latest iteration of the "tough and cynical" legislation could "bring about a tragic rift between the government and the people," and "could even lead to public confrontation." She called for the mobilization of police and security personnel, adding that she was determined to drum up support among other parliamentary factions' leaders to stop the bill in its current form.

On Thursday, the former prime minister characterized the revised legislation as a "catastrophe," and accused the government of "shamelessly cheating parliament" by resubmitting "draconian norms" that had already been rejected by lawmakers.

"The adoption of such a law will be a crime against the Ukrainian state and show contempt for its citizens,"Timoshenko wrote in a Facebook post. She vowed to "unite society in the struggle against this outrageous draft bill."

MOSCOW, February 4. /TASS/. Units from Russia's Battlegroup Center have improved their positions on the frontline in the Krasny Liman area and repelled three attacks by assault units of Ukraine's armed forces and the Azov battalion (outlawed in Russia), the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The total losses of the Ukrainian armed forces have amounted up to 120 troops and two armored vehicles in the Krasny Liman area over 24 hours.

Kherson area

"Ukrainian losses have amounted up to 30 troops, three motor vehicles, an M777 artillery system and a D-20 gun," the military agency said in a statement.
Zaporozhye area

"The adversary lost up to 45 troops, two motor vehicles, a D-20 gun and a Grad MLRS combat vehicle," the ministry said.

Dnepropetrovsk Region

The Russian Armed Forces have eliminated the Ukrainian army's fuel depot in the Dnepropetrovsk Region over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"Additionally, damage was delivered to personnel and hardware of the Ukrainian army in 124 districts," the military agency said in a statement.

Donetsk area
Units of Russia's Battlegroup South have deflected two attacks by Ukrainian troops in the Donetsk area over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

According to the military agency, Russian forces deflected two attacks of the Ukrainian formations near the villages of Krasnoye and Leninskoye in the Donetsk People's Republic.

The Ukrainian armed forces have lost up to 380 personnel in the Donetsk area in the past 24 hours. During counterbattery work, a Gvozdika self-propelled howitzer as well as two D-20 and D-30 howitzers were eliminated.

The adversary lost up to 115 personnel, two armored fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles, two Akatsiya self-propelled artillery systems and a D-20 gun south of Donetsk over the past 24 hours, the statement said.

Kupyansk area

The adversary lost up to 30 troops, two armored fighting vehicles, three motor vehicles, a Polish-made Krab self-propelled howitzer and a US-made M777 artillery system, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
Just some abandoned inches, I am sure.

For those that aren't aware, TASS literally stands for Telegraph Agency for the Soviet Union and an official unitary enterprise owned by the Russian Government. After it fell they became the Information Telegraph Agency of Russia before just saying F it and going back to TASS.

Let me put it in terms you may understand.

If the American government states that the Mount Whitney is the flagship of the fleet it's not propaganda.

If the American government claims battlefield accomplishments and success it's probably mixed with a lot of propaganda.

I don't speak for anyone else but I am skeptical of pretty much any source initially. The issue is one of battlefield updates, in this case, and frankly only the two sides can actually provide first hand information; there aren't a bunch of observers otherwise sending updates. The Ukrainians have actually lied about those much more I think, though when the Prigy Wagner soap opera was going on I would say the Russian side had a lot of dishonesty in releases too.

The only other option for updates is to go to propagandists like Oryx or British intelligence (ISW) etc. Russians have actually been pretty up front about casualties, net. What the Russians are spending, losing, building, employing etc. can best be determined via sources…from Russia, including their official channels. No one has to agree with me of course and I don't care if many don't, but the alternative is just to guess wildly about what is going on as the Ukrainian side (and our own propaganda press) is pure propaganda/lies most of the time.
