Wow the tide is turning on Trump. Last year at this time no way a thread critical of Trump would have this many post in support of the OP. What was funny 6 years ago isn't so much anymore.

I believe that Governor Desantis should not stoop to Trumps level. Surely by now Americans are wise to Trumps methodology, and won't take the bait.

Trumps time has passed, and he needs to enjoy his time in Florida at the golf course. (And I voted for him twice.)

Agree he should try to stay on the high road and avoid name-calling, but at the right time he needs to call Trump out for his childish behavior. That time isn't now, and I'm not the expert on exactly how to do it, but he'll have to demonstrate some toughness and punch the bully in the nose.

I've gone from a 9-out-of-10 Trump fan to like a 3 because of his destructive behavior. The only reason Georgia got two D Senators was Trump's childish self-absorbed antics after the 2020 election. I was living in GA during that election, and it's not a blue state.

Trump only won the first primary because the non-trump vote was split. The republicans won't make the same mistake this time and everyone will clear out for DeSantis. They know trump is guaranteed to lose (again) and the tiny percentage of trump worshippers remaining won't be enough.

DeSantis talking to Ryan and McCarthy doesn't mean anything other than he is being smart. That's the likely future Speaker as well as the former who sits on the Board of Fox. They have money and influence and they don't like Trump. It's much more likely the look at DeSantis as a better alternative to Trump even if they don't like everything about DeSantis. Mainly they like that DeSantis could have a real shot at not only winning in '24 but winning BIG. DeSantis has a lot of Reagan like qualities about him in terms of keeping his focus on the opposition and not within his own Party. I don't see it likely at all that DeSantis suddenly throws out everything he has been to become a tool of the GOPe.

The far more likely thing DeSantis is doing is looking to clear the field so it's Trump vs DeSantis. People forget that had it been Trump vs Cruz that Cruz would have won in all polling. The problem was the Anti Trump vote was split between Cruz, Rubio, and Kasich and Trump basically kept his 40% base and won. Trump's base vs a guy like DeSantis is very, very vulnerable if you look under the covers even a little bit. The amount of folks that are "Trump or nothing!" is not that big anymore.

How is DeSantis sanctimonious? Does Trump even know the meaning or does it just fit the name?

I like Rich Baris, but from what I've seen from Desantis so far he may actually be more MAGA than Trump is. I know Trump coined the phrase, but Desantis has shown to be a successful fighter -- politically and culturally for America first values. He may turn out to be GOPe at some point, but I haven't seen it yet.
