I would never own an EV if I couldn't charge at home. I think it's actually the biggest hurdle to any idea that EV's will have 50% market share in 5 years.

Can you stop with the tick tock mining to find every negative thing about EVs? Its it perfect, no and it doesn't have to be. But the incessant tick tock mining feels like a teenager getting their news.

I challenge you to try and become educated. Drive a Tesla for 3 months with home charging even in the northern states and I bet you will be enlightened.

Anyone who owns a Tesla/EV without home charging without easy access to superchargers or charging at work would be insane.

But You are starting to see more superchargers pop up everywhere, businesses and workplace putting in a Level 2. Apartment complexes are starting to put in level 2 chargers. My workplace has a level 2 and I am fully charged when I am ready to drive home.

The past 5 yrs has seen great advancement in charging. The next 5 years will be even greater.

In 5 yrs, when charging becomes10x more accessible. Cars are 10K cheaper to buy for an equivalent. Much cheaper to maintain. Becomes more mainstream, currently 9% of new cars are BEV in the US.

Education is the hard part and when someone drives in my car they are amazed at the tech and ease of use.

I could very well be wrong but if not 5, would definitely be in 10 just because the turnover of cars are much slower than say an iphone.

10 years is possible, 5 is just not realistic. Especially for trucks and large SUVs being such a large part of the market.

Don't think a compelling truck being released in 5 years is impossible, but just don't think Tesla's goal is to grow faster than 50% annually anymore and I don't think the other manufacturers will grow at anywhere near that rate.

2030: 25% +/- 5%
2035: 50% +/- 50%

Update for the people worried about battery health.

That's a little harder to get away with now that dealers and service providers record the mileage each time a car's in the shop.

If it is harder to get away with, why are the rates going up rapidly? It is shockingly easy to do with most vehicles.

PS. Dealers have been recording mileage at each service for a long time.

Don't take your Cybertruck out in the snow. Winters are rough on these things.

Both drivers are still stuck in those same places today, begging for food to survive because they can't make it to work. Tragic.

Or the camera got shut off and they eventually got out and it's a reality of life that sometimes trucks get stuck in snow, and the time they spend stuck there is proportionate to how dumb the driver is in understanding how to get out. Most people that get stuck in snow are stupid, because they come from a population dumb enough to live where it snows enough to get stuck in it.


Tire wear is a function of how a person drives a vehicle more than anything. If you have a 0-60 in 2.4s truck, the frequency with which you're going to launch it is high. Just as a good ol' boy that likes to burn rubber on his F-150 is going to burn through tires quickly too.

If you're worried about tire life with an EV you're more than welcome to buy a $35,000 Chevy Equinox EV with a 0-60 of 7.7 seconds. Your tires will live forever, but your soul will die in 5.2 seconds.

Unless I'm not seeing things correctly…. Why are you comparing an all wheel drive cyber truck to a 2 WD pickup with no apparent load in the bed to provide weight over rear wheels?

My apologies if I mis-read your post. I assumed that when you mentioned "both vehicles would be stuck in snow" you meant that the cyber truck and 2 WD pickup were the 2 vehicles you were referring to. Comparison would suggest that I was differentiating the vehicles. The point I was making is there isn't a consumer vehicle that won't get stuck in the snow and the fact that a Cybertruck is on video spinning its wheels in the snow is not suggestive that it is notably prone to getting stuck in snow, just that it has the capacity to.

Something I noticed tonight.

There's a Sheetz station near me with several Tesla Superchargers, been there several years. It's right off of I-40, and they seem to do a pretty brisk business. The chargers are almost always half-occupied when I drive by.

A couple miles down the street at the grocery store where I shop, they installed a couple of EVgo chargers. They are in a poorly lit corner of the parking lot. The only real option for something to eat is a McDonald's, and it isn't real close to the chargers. Not the ideal spot to stop for a charge. I would occasionally see a non-Tesla EV there, I always figured someone driving through who was desperate for a charge.

I went by the grocery store at 9 PM tonight, and there was line of cars waiting to charge up. Again, a cruddy charge location that is very dimly lit. It seems a little early for Christmas travel.

Agree with any vehicle can get stuck in snow. Was just pointing out that a comparing a 2 WD vehicle, particularly with a light ass rear end to an AWD. Isn't apples/0ranges…regardless of tire tread.

I've wondered how it would perform in snow like that, and it looks like it handled it just fine. Presumably there would still be issues in more traffic or actively snowing in those conditions with mud and ice eventually obstructing the cameras?

Two years in with a Ford Lightning. No problems so far. It does what I need it to do and it has not caught on fire. I'm up in East Texas and there are quite a few Teslas running about. And I see a number of Cyber Trucks now. Not so many Lightnings though.

I'm calling BS on at least part of her story. If she was in a car with smoke or some other risk, the first responders wouldn't wait 45 minutes. I'm not saying there aren't issues with the vehicle that caused it to fail but I think she embellished the story to get a better settlement.

I theorize they must see the fancy electronic mechanisms as a selling point, and plausibly to reduce the weight of the door/vehicle by a couple pounds. To me it's an example of poor/over-engineering, but EV buyers tend not to worry about that so the marketing probably outweighs it.

Tesla is not a car company.

They are a data company. They have a lot of what many businesses and people want.
