Texas A&M's campaign ended on a very sour note as the Aggies suffered a 35-31 loss to Southern California in the 2024 SRS Distribution Las Vegas Bowl. Following the defeat, Mike Elko, Noah Thomas and Cashius Howell spoke to the media about the game.

A defensive-minded head coach said with a straight face that we, "Have no concept of space. We have no concept of zone coverage. So we have to play man…"

I think my Saturdays next fall just opened up.

The difference is elko didn't outright say the kids didn't execute. At the end of the day, I don't think Jimblo ever once said anything was "on him" but elko said it about 78 times this season in post game press conferences. Next season we see how seriously he takes that statement. No one is getting fired after one season, but if we see the same bs next season, I think we need to pull the rug. As much as I hate saying that because I think it DOES take time to build a program and a culture (especially when the previous culture was so piss poor) I think there are some things that are non negotiables for next year to be what Elko needs to show us

Players win games and coaches lose them

We won time of possession, turnovers battle, rushing yardage, total yards, and lost to a one dimensional team.

Elko has only been a head coach 3 years and he is still learning how to build a staff, build a roster, and manage a game. He should get better. But if he doesn't show improvement in team prep and game management soon, he will be a defensive coordinator at another school soon.

What he stated meant the kids cannot execute zone defense. The meaning is the same even though he worded it differently.

Yes, it's only year one. But Jimbo did not state the execute line over and over until his 5-7 season. His 3rd year. It's actually more concerning to me Elko is using it in year one.

Elko just used the lack of players being able to run zone excuse after losing his 4th power 4 game in a row. It's interesting that coaches use those phrases once they start losing games.

He's learning on the job. Has a chance to be good, but we all have to admit we're watching a guy learn on the job.

Did he learn after the Notre Dame loss? After we snuck by Bowling Green? After we snuck by Arkansas? After almost having his QB lose us the game to Miss State? After continuing to play the wrong QB against LSU? After the South Carolina loss? After the Auburn loss? After the tu loss? After the USC loss? If he's learning, then damn, that's a lot of lessons lol

He was Elko's friend! and Elko thinks of his own self as a defensive mastermind, despite being exposed and humiliated nonstop for most of this year.

And OC Klein's tape at K-State confused Elko, so here we are with 2 awful coordinators.

Correct. All us elite arm chair coaches knew this day one. Big whiff here and we sure saw how bad of a selection that was these last 5 games. Glad to know I don't have to devote any more time next fall and headspace for these let downs!

He's learning what exactly? Learning would suggest some degree of improvement. He and the team got considerably worse with November kicking off. The season ending meltdown would not indicate a man who is learning. It would indicate a man who refuses to learn. How anyone has any positive views about Elko and his two sub par coordinators is so very perplexing.

The guy has a track record of being bad.

He's all Elko could get.

Good coaches don't want anything to do with this program.
