If you look at the pic at the bottom of page one, where it has the side-by-side images of identical burns...
the pic on the left, from the ER, has writing in the background. While it's too small to read, it's justified left, so it's almost certainly oriented properly, implying that the burns are on the left side of her face. The adjacent pic is probably a mirror shot or reversed selfie.

So does the police have the "lighter" in possession? Should be able to lift the fingerprints off it right?

I'm conflicted because on one hand I think the fair and right thing to do is to wait for all the facts and extend grace to people... but on the other hand you're right: there are a lot of people out there who will take advantage of complicit media, the social media snowball, and reasonable people suspending judgment.

So much of what goes on today is explained by Yeats: "the best lack all conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity".

For me at least, i's not a lack of conviction, but that my convictions don't resonate emotionally with most people. I believe strongly in data, Bayesian inference, and a statistical perception of the world. It's a metaconviction, but that doesn't play on Twitter. Not that I have a Twitter, because the format is inherently hostile to reason.

This lady is definitely lying. For those planning the next racist hoax it will sound more believable if you say it was just one racist person that did it. I just can't imagine a modern day all white KKK gang running around calling random people the n word and setting them on fire.
