So what should Trump do? What can any politician do to change anything?
I have posted several times what I think he needs to do.

He needs to parrot the CDC and stop pretending there is a magic wand that will do what he wants.

Being a bombastic blowhard proclaiming all is well or blaming the past administration when he could have changed the things he thought they did wrong (NOW) doesn't fix it spreading across the country.

Being a bombastic blowhard won him the office because Romney and McCain were proof anything less was going to be run over by a left media. But anyone who can set aside the bluster and look at actual policy on the whole, he has been very successful so far. And this is going to be the same. As a country, we are mobilizing at the right time. And his two recent pressers are a big reason for that.

He's a NY salesman that talks a bunch of ***** But he gets **** done. I've worked with a ton of them in my career and would go to battle with them any time

To get us back on track, something positive...

I read that we (the U.S.) haven't had a single coronavirus death in over 24 hours. That's a pretty big deal, right? For all the predictions of there potentially being a million deaths in this country, logic obviously says we'd have to have an increasing death rate to get there.

Ot is this simply an anomaly/way too early to tell?

The media was ridiculous in President Trump's press conference.

Whether you like him or not he is giving updates and new information in a press conference setting and has made available high ranking officials in the medical field and the public and private sectors where any of them can be asked questions. Yet outside of a few reporters, the rest are trying to catch him in "Gotcha" statements or corner him into saying he should be quarantined himself.

How are they doing any service to the American people by asking these questions? You have these major resources of information in front you to ask legitimate questions and yet they're pulling this crap?

And the flu kills 80 k a year. I already predicted on another thread 100k. And that pisses me off. But nothing "government" can do about it. If "government" could do something, why are so many people dying from flu every year?

This is not once in a lifetime trajectory. Go back historically and look at figures for things like the Spanish flu, Black Plague, HIV/AIDS, etc.

That needs to be understood in both cases per capita and adjusted for area. We're a lot bigger and a lot more spread out, and most of their cases were concentrated in one region.

That being said, our numbers don't mean jack because we weren't testing. Hold on to your butts.

I'm not sure I follow why... for these reasons:

1. would tests not have allowed for trending and forecasting in a higher resolution? or does that not really matter? i thought it did which is why containment is attempted.
2. is it not useful to know for allocation of resources for treatment? ie, don't mistake a non-covid and allocate breathing machines too soon or some *****

Testing might have allowed a better feel for the scope and severity of the disease. I personally do not think it would have anything to do with the mortality rate. And I appreciate the back and forth also.

Doesn't help mortality directly. This will probably be a multi month event and you can't keep everyone shut down that long. Testing should have given us enough info to know what cities need to close when.

I personally don't agree with closing anything down. This flattening the curve would probably be more applicable to an epidemic that was deadlier.

Where was all this concern when H1N1 was going around? That was far deadlier.

In the US: Consider no tests and no worldwide or federal communication. Communication limited to local only...Virus still would be identified, word would get out, action taken, epidemic plan engaged, overcome and local would return to prospering.

And maybe in some cases....more efficient,,,cause AMERICA
