The university has stated that because they are a state facility they aren't bound by the city requirements and that they would form their own plan on how to handle large gatherings of people

if some entities overreact, that doesn't mean that the situation is as dire as their actions might convey. I think The updated actual statistics we get on the mortality rate and the rate of spread are infinitely more useful than what an NHL franchise is doing. But maybe you disagree...

Many of these entities don't want to be seen as "doing nothing" should the worst case present itself, so they are going to extreme measures and (in my opinion) overreacting in order to avoid being cast as negligent should things go incredibly bad.

Absolutely

It's even more comically absurd in their case because it's way too late to have much of an impact. The cat is out of the bag, so to speak.

Seems like a really cavalier decision by the city of Austin if they aren't on the same page with the University of Texas which is obviously at the center of that city.

My trip to Italy was suppose to start today. It's in a region that wasn't on lockdown before. In the end about 15-20 people made their way and they were able to have a few tours still on the schedule. Keep in mind the Italy portion kept telling us this was all hype, nothing to worry about. They were so laid back about it. They got the word about keeping people so many meters apart, or not taking vans, so any day trips that were in a van were cancelled. I guess they toured around the city today and while they were eating dinner the press conference came on. Everyone was stunned. The Italian person suddenly went from the most carefree laid back person to "Get out immediately". I have one friend that was able to book a flight to Malta. Another decided to stay because she thinks her odds are better there than in the UK. Another person is going through Budapest but not until tomorrow so we will see if she makes it out.
All this to say, I really think the Italians were very lax about it, very carefree, and now they have had this surge that showed it was harder to contain and hard on their hospitals.

Wouldn't it be better to leave the infected person in quarantine at home and house the well members of the home in the hotel? Or are they talking about the homeless? Will the mentally ill obey a self-quarantine at a hotel?

I have been noticing the percentage of mild cases to severe cases move from 85-15 to 88-12 on the worldometer website. Seems like an encouraging sign, but I still notice that Iran appears to not be reporting severe cases.
