Similar to 1918 flu pandemic. Climate change has nothing to do with this Greta.....

Guess China is confirming that it attacks the central nervous system now.Quote:
Beijing Ditan Hospital affiliated to the Capital Medical University said on March 4 that the first patient with novel coronavirus pneumonia complicated with encephalitis was discharged from the hospital on February 25.
Liu Jingyuan, director of the ICU at the Hospital, presided over the treatment of the patient. He reminded that patients with conscious disturbances must consider the possibility that the virus may attack the central nervous system.
At present, patients with new type of coronavirus pneumonia can be combined with multiple organ damages such as severe respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), myocardial damage, abnormal coagulation function, kidney damage, liver damage, etc. However, no central nervous system involvement has been reported. The case report is the first in the world.
I wonder if this is the cause of some of the strange things we have seen with the virus like the reinfection a being worse and the collapses.

Sorry I may have missed this, but all I keep seeing are the overall infection numbers increase as testing increases (seems inevitable), and then the death #s which are concentrated in the elderly/already sick. What are the actual symptoms and negative effects for someone who is relatively young and healthy? Basically the same as a bad case of the flu?
You know 35 seconds to listen and form your on an opnon is too much to ask for people these days!!aginlakeway said:Did you listen to that? Do you think the twitter statement is accurate? Or do you not care how misleading (wrong) it is?Shanked Punt said:
I'm not commenting either way, just sounded like Trump's usual rambling stream of verbiage clumsily trying to make a statement.
The Democrats were up in arms about limiting travel to China back when Trump announced the travel restrictions. No matter what Trump does the will complain. If Trump does nothing it will be bad and people complain. If Trump shuts down travel and other things he's called xenophobic and that he's overreacting. It's a no win situation compounded by the CDC botching the test kit production last month.sawthemoffxx said:Eh, when the death toll starts mounting these won't be gripes.techno-ag said:Eh. Trumps handling has been extremely disappointing and I'm not sure he is fully understanding what can happen here. I've read even yesterday they aren't even screening people coming in from Italy... how is that possible. All flights from Asia should have been shut down immediately.

I'd say at least 4.7% based on those numbers. Take out the new cases from today. 148 / (3858-769).

"Italy is a country of old people," said Prof Massimo Galli, the director of infectious diseases at Sacco hospital in Milan. "The elderly with previous pathologies are notoriously numerous here. I think this could explain why we are seeing more serious cases of coronavirus here, which I repeat, in the vast majority of cases start mildly and cause few problems, especially in young people and certainly in children.
"Our life expectancy is among the highest in the world. But unfortunately, in a situation like this, old people are more at risk of a serious outcome."

I think this chart is gonna be bad news for a long time.

geographically, there is no where to run to except north or south, so that adds to the congestion and spread of the disease IMO.IrishTxAggie said:Italy is also a disproportionately older country compared to most.k2aggie07 said:

Thought this was interesting to read. Many peaks and valleys during his overall illness timeline. Either way, he's 25 and it sounds like it was no walk in the park for him.

I call BS. I didn't see anywhere in that article that states he ever tested positive and his claim is he got it on November 25th. Even the doctor that claimed to be the whistle blower didn't say anything until mid-December. Seems like a publicity stunt for attentionbasketaggie said:

I don't think it has an ethnic component. I think it originated in China and was spread by the Chinese. The first people infected are going to be the people who are likely Chinese who brought it back from China. Their close associates are likely to be the same ethnicity. So it will spread through that population at the beginning. The next thing you look at are the patients age, and underlying health problems. This is primarily a respiratory illness of the lungs from what I have read. Smokers and those with lung aillments or who live with high levels of pollution (China) are probably going to have a more serious illness, but any underlying health problem puts you at risk.Exsurge Domine said:
This is odd, but does it seem like People from European stock are immune from this disease or at least in some way less vulnerable? I was watching the news and it showed the people in New York with the virus were asiatic, and the same with the people they were showing in Italy. Does this sound possible to anyone? Asking as a concerned white guy haha
ETA: except for the elderly whites
I didnt say you said anything about Biden...but he is going to be the Dem nominee. And you must already be suffering from a severe fever if you think Trump wont be the nominee....also if you think he wont beat any of the chumps being run against him. Especially if this does blow up big, because liberal stronghold in large cities will be hit the hardest anyways!Mr.Infectious said:
I never said Biden is a better option.
IMO if this keeps going the way it is, by the time both conventions roll around BOTH parties will be reconsidering their choices.
After all, they are political parties, they tend to change with the political winds. This is shaping up to be a once in 100 years storm.....
To me, It's pretty simple if Trump is able to handle this dilemma well. He'll get another four years (deservingly). If he fails, he'll either be replaced at the convention or lose the Dems replacement candidate. It won't be Biden, Sanders or Clinton.
Feel feee to start an *****official CV political discussion thread *****. I've been discussing it here because IMO it's going to be a large part of this story as we head further into 2020.

Would be interesting to see these charts plotted against the number of reported deaths.

That we aren't shutting down all outbound international travel at this point is absurd... but it may be too late anyways. At this point it will be luck if we don't hit a pandemic and that will sink Trump. Biden had better stop shaking hands or he may not be the nominee either.. real talk.

inbound? But yeah, I think it's way too late for that and that fact will become obvious next week when we finally start to test in large #s.sawthemoffxx said:

The doctor prescribed antibiotics for the pneumonia but I'm reluctant to take them I'm worried that my body will become resistant to the drugs and, if I ever get really ill and need them, they won't work. I prefer to beat this with traditional remedies if I can.
