I think the general concern is that if we don't take proper measures then these closures will become reality, not that they are already a reality. If being inconvenienced for a couple of weeks prevents a legitimate pandemic spread, then its probably good idea. Life definitely should go on, but we're faced with something that could mean life doesn't go on for many (vulnerable as was stated). Its not a matter of expectation, its a matter preparation and willingness if it comes to that.
And I am willing if it becomes a pandemic.
But deciding to shut everything down tomorrow is not rational.
Neither is waiting for our caseload to explode like it has in every other country because our leaders are idiots.
So shut down the whole country?
Or perhaps local governments can decide what is best?
There is no point in shutting down schools and sporting events in Missouri tomorrow.
Local governments are just as idiotic as the feds. That's laughable.
Yes, in the face of a global pandemic with a pathogen that has high transmittability, all public gatherings and schools should be closed.
All air travel should be shut down (international or domestic).
But we won't (yet) because people are ignorant of exponential growth and selfish to boot. So we're all going to get boned because of this until the feds institute more draconian measures.
