I don't know what would be worse, the damage that would do to your internal organs or the damage to your toilet.

The lethality seems like the big kicker. If it really is 2-3%, and it spreads worldwide, that's a problem.

If it sticks to the swine flu stats, then meh.

CNN (article "written" by Chelsea Clinton) and of course as anyone with a brain expected, Mitt Romney are blaming Trump for the coronavirus.
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves." - Sir Winston Churchill

Pretty sure the dry pasta is good for a few years if not a decade. Supposedly honey never goes bad it just dries out.

I reading zombie apocalypse frequently, and that seems to be a gold standard for those who are bunkered down waiting for it to end. Same thing with protein bars and shake mixes

https://www.washingtonpost.com/health/2020/02/25/cdc-coronavirus-test/

U.S. guidelines recommend testing for a very narrow group of people those who display respiratory symptoms and have recently traveled to China or had close contact with an infected person.

But many public health experts think that in light of evidence that the disease has taken root and spread in Iran, Italy, Singapore and South Korea, it's time to broaden testing in the United States.

I posted a FB post earlier from an employee in a San Diego hospital. Lots of pneumonia cases there above the regular, but CDC will only test if you have been to China or around someone confirmed with it...

Thus, I see nothing, I hear nothing.

CDC is intentionally not testing for whatever reason.

Sticking w the prepping meme of the night, i stocked up on a bunch of items tonight at Kroger and will be going to Restaurant Depot tomorrow for some bigger volume purchases (beans, flour, canned goods)

Long story short, I'm not hoarding, I'm inviting friends and family to spend "quality quarantine time" together, if it ever gets to that point.

I'm allowing events to warrant my level of preparation. If theres something very unusual in the news cycle I'll wait for confirmation then act accordingly.

Two big ones today: 1) The CDC press conference today announcing "potential pandemic" and 2) financial markets (world wide) getting monkey hammered for a 2nd day. Financial markets as in oil, bonds, not just stocks.

Beyond that, you can see the shift in language on this thread and around the web on how people are viewing this more of a real threat than some over there problem to talk about for amusement.

IMO events are accelerating.

If you think events warrant. Keep up with your preparations. Write a list BEFORE going to the store. Work within a budget. Don't go crazy with impulse buys. Just get what you think you'll need. You won't be able to plan for every contingency.

Absolutely not. Didn't even blink an eye w Mers sars or Ebola.

This one really caught my attention when they started locking down cities. Travel bans and factory shut downs were next big indicators. Made some preps then.

I was in a holding pattern w any additional steps until today.

I'm not locked in a bunker. Still working and doing normal day to day stuff. Just hyper vigilant right now. Hopefully this will pass but I think we have at least a couple of weeks to maneuver through before things will get markedly better.

China coming back online helps but there are all sorts of headwinds to battle through yet.

New conspiracy theory: this COVID-19 thing is especially deadly in Tehran and is just a cover for assassination of Iran's leaders, thus allowing for an overthrow of their current government.

You know,

I was at Walmart today buying some beans, rice, etc..

I got a bunch of spaghetti-os for the kids! At a dollar a can, can't really complain about that...

I mean, I have never ever fed my children canned pasta, but if SHTF...why the hell not.

Needless to say I stocked up on various Chef Boyardee items...for the kids...not me...the kids. lol

Ha, it won't take 24 hours without food before they'll eat spaghettios.

That's how I keep my dog from getting fat. I fill half her bowl with food she likes, and half with food she dislikes, but will eat if she's hungry enough. Then I just refill it when it's empty.

That's funny, I do the same thing to the dogs, each one gets 1/2 of the food they love, they also each get 1/2 of the diet dog food that they don't like... they always eat the good stuff first and the diet food is saved for later when they get hungry enough to eat it ... I guess it's better than only giving them the boring diet food

It's all about probability

If we tested every person for everything you could possibly conceive of causing their symptoms...well, you don't have to be in medicine to understand how inefficient, expensive and nonsensical that would be.

There's simply no reason at this point to test house wives from rural Oklahoma for the coronavirus strain.

It's becoming more and more apparent the morality rate for relatively healthy people below age 70 or so is around 0.5-1.5%. Still higher than run of the mill influenza, but nothing capable of threatening civilization as we know it. Among the elderly and chronically ill it's looking like somewhere between 3-8%. The Spanish flu kill about 3% of ALL who contracted it.

And for whatever reason kids really aren't presenting with illness very often. It's likely they represent a large burden of asymptomatic carriers.

Anyone entering the country from anywhere will be quarantined.

12-18 months for a vaccine. Can't stop it but can slow it down.
A little issue with your plan, it is called the Constitution. Not disagreeing at all, but it is THE governing law. How do we preserve The Constitution while protecting the masses from each other?

Sum up my feelings well. I was in a holding pattern until today. The CDC announcement, the markets going nuts, and the explosion around the world took me to the next step. I bought a number of non-perishable foods at HEB tonight. Not too worry about meat because if worst comes to shove I can survive without it.

What I'd love to see with tracking Coronavirus and people possibly exposed is usage of digital advertising (mobile) technology. Theres already probabilistic and deterministic tech in use to determine where a mobile device userlives and works or regularly visits. If that same tech is used but to determine who an infected individual would have been in contact with then it becomes much much easier to isolate/alert people who were possibly exposed
