Call me when futures are down a thousand points on nCov fears.
The market is certainly watching but I'd bet there's more downside protection being purchased for a Sanders/Warren election win in November. We wont see effects on earnings until Mayyukmonkey said:Schu in Mizzou said:

Russia has closed their Far East border with China in an attempt to limit spread of the virus. Putin is a lot more concerned about this than we are.

When it comes to cuisine... Americans eat some pretty nasty stuff.MouthBQ98 said:

If Trump really cared about Americans, he'd shut our border with China... or Mexico... You know... to be more like his friend Putin.B-1 83 said:Maybe because he shares a border. Has he stopped all flights/travel from China?UTExan said:

To say that is sadly true.
Most people I know in college station are not even slightly worried.
People still out drinking and partying without a care.

(Combating new pneumonia) Li Lanjuan: Virus spreads among mammals, pets need to be monitored for outbreaks
Langzhong News Agency, Beijing, January 30th. Li Lanjuan, a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and a member of the high-level expert group of the National Health and Medical Commission, said that the new coronavirus is transmitted between mammals, so mammals need to be prepared. "Owners need to strengthen the management of pets. If pets are exposed to outbreaks and patients, they also need to be monitored."

Tilapia is pretty bad and if you've seen Mike Rowe's "Dirty Jobs" on it... you'd never eat it again. They farm it near sewage treatment facilities where they eat the solids from the sewage - Poop.
And yet, Americans gobble that stuff up like it is a delicacy.
Crawfish, catfish, lobsters are the rats of the water.
People eat squirrels... and back in the 90s, Louisiana was trying to trick people into eating Nutria, like we eat crawfish.
Hindus are shocked we eat beef.
Most importantly, if you've ever raised chickens... you might find eating chicken a little more disgusting.
What China needs is less communism and more freedom and capitalism. The problem they have is trying to decentralize their huge cities.

Later on in that article it mentioned some video of a Chinese claiming 90,000 have been infected. Has that video made it's way to the translation thread?

Slowing down the virus saves lives.
50% of the population getting this virus over a 6 month period vs a 1 month period puts an entirely different strain on Hospitals, allows us to learn more to develop good treatment procedures, and puts lets strain on critical services.
If the infected count gets to 150k, it's not a problem as far as bed counts are concerned. This thing isn't sending every infected person to the hospital requiring an ICU room.AG 2000' said:hbtheduce said:

There's a total of about 150K ventilator beds available in the entire U.S.
If the infected count here gets over that, the mortality rate is going to skyrocket.
Let's look at some figures for just China.....7,804 casesQuote:
If it is on the Internet it must be true.
Already one confirmed case in India link here.Agnzona said:
The death rate is not near as high as SARS, but the transmission seems to be greatly higher. So, So far not as deadly but significantly more contagious.
The real problem could be spreading to Laos, Cambodia or India. Highly dense populations with poor hygiene and medical care.
