Alaska Republican party leaders plan to consider whether to reprimand U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski for opposing Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation.
The party has asked Murkowski to provide any information she might want its state central committee to consider.
Party Chairman Tuckerman Babcock says the committee could decide to issue a statement. Or he says it could withdraw support of Murkowski, encourage party officials to look for a replacement and ask that she not seek re-election as a Republican.
He says the party took that more extreme step previously with state legislators who caucused with Democrats.
He says all this follows outrage from Alaska Republicans.
Murkowski told reporters that if she worried about political repercussions she wouldn't be able to do the job Alaskans expect her to do.
I said this exact same thing last week, but I don't think it will be for RBG's replacement. I think it will be for Clarence Thomas. I fully expect Barrett to be his replacement next year. I believe this will be perceived as less of a threat to Collins/Murkowski on abortion rights because you are effectively swapping a conservative out for a conservative.PanzerAggie06 said:
The only positive take away from Murkowski's no vote is that if Trump gets to nominate someone to replace RBG I'd expect to see her a solid yes. She might not be the brightest bulb on the Christmas tree but she isn't totally naive to politics. She has four years to work over the voters in Alaska on the no vote on Kavanaugh. Two no votes and that becomes borderline impossible.
Thomas wants to retire and travel around the country in his RV with his wife.PanzerAggie06 said:
That is believable. Thomas has got to be thinking of retiring. He's pushing 71 and while he's been on the court over 25 years from what I have read on him he has never seemed to be in love with the position. His confirmation process definitely seemed to sour him. Will be interesting to see what impact the past two weeks has on Kavanaugh. There is no way he went thru that without it impacting him.

I hope there are consequences for her. If you're going to caucus with Dems, especially on an issue this important, you might as well be a Dem instead of a RINO.drcrinum said:Quote:
