Oh, it's fine. I was just making a quick post about it, but I'm just going to have to check out of posts about this movie. I've already decided not to watch another trailer or anything else about this movie, and it's been generally held that anything in a trailer is fair game to discuss. I'm just so excited about this movie and don't want anything even close to spoilery.

I remember the scene in Dune 2 where Paul is walking out onto the ledge to see the hundreds of thousands of Fremen below him being in the trailer for Dune 2. When that happened in the movie, I wished I hadn't seen that in the trailer. It would have made it even more goosebump-inducing, for me.

As far as I'm concerned, I got enough from the first Dune 3 trailer. It looks incredible and Denis hasn't let me down, even once.

Maybe I could have worded the title a little better, but the point is that this thread is meant to treat discussion of the movie as if the book doesn't exist. No spoilers of any kind.

Granted, the kids thing was an officially announced casting, so that's fair game.

Otherwise, outside of the trailers/official announcements, this is the "no spoilers" thread.

Starting to get this vibe, my only complaint with the second movie is where it ended with Chani. I think part of the big moral hazard with Paul is that he is likable and charismatic and he's supposed to be, I will not like this movie if they go space Hitler and make him overtly evil. It would totally be a disservice to Frank Herbert.

Have you read it? That's exactly what Dune is about.

The question here will be how much DV has changed the plot versus the books because he obviously did that at the end of the second movie. I'm assuming he has combined Messiah and Children of Dune into this movie because Messiah as a stand-alone movie would not test well with general audiences.

Edit: I somehow didn't catch all of your comment upon first read. Agree with you that if they make Paul space Hitler then this will be disappointing, but it won't surprise me if he's truly combined the Children of Dune and God Emperor into this next movie.

Focus your dork hate on another sci-fi masterpiece being ruined by big time movie producers capitalizing on fandom and over the top cgi to distract from inserting terrible cast members because HW has dictated you must put a certain set of aspects in film or else you will be blackballed.

Toy Story 5 and the 2027 spiderverse movie are both more must sees for me than Dune 3 because I'd rather spend movie time with my family enjoying it than seeing a masterful literary saga get destroyed by HW.

This movie is a wait til streaming one for me. Despite the earlier interest I was on the fence about, I've read the books and am good knowing how the real story plays out without abhorrent casting and the subtle or maybe not so subtle messaging tries to make this abomination (lol see what i did there) be some sort of commentary on something many Americans don't want.

Frank Herbert wrote Dune Messiah to warn against following such heroes.

Yes. But he was a reluctant hero and recognized the dangers and folly of everyone following him, thus his eventual arc. Leto II consummated Paul's fears.

Herbert's arc for Paul is more nuanced than that, and an ironic consequence of his powers as the KH. The BG bred the KH to "see the places they could not go", i.e., to see the paths forward into the future that would lead to a given goal. Paul's use of the spice intensified those powers. Paul could see that certain actions would lead to a galaxy wide jihad and billions of deaths, but also see that not following this path would have other, worse outcomes. Once Paul chose the path to jihad, he was trapped. (And ultimately, so was Leto II.) Dune isn't just a cautionary tale about tyrants. It's also about the danger of determinism and the loss of free will.

The 4 min preview was ****ing insane. What Denis and Nolan are doing in terms of pure cinematic delivery is unrivaled. The two 70mm previews this year; the Trojan Horse scene in Odyssey and the 'Normandy' style invasion preview of Dune 3 is a pure dopamine rush.

This was disappointing as I assumed it would show in all IMAX showings, not just the small number of IMAX 70mm theaters.

One on hand, it was incredibly awesome footage and, as much as I loved The Odyssey, made me want to watch the whole thing right then and there instead.

That said, at four minutes, it was only half the sequence that was shown at CinemaCon, and ended awkwardly as a result. It just... stopped in the middle of the action, with no real resolution or final beat or anything.

Again, everything looked amazing, and it was 100% Saving Private Ryan in space, in the best way, but I honestly would have rather seen the entire sequence or nothing at all.

In other words, you didn't really miss out.

Truly terrible quality, but if anyone really wants to see the prologue, here it is...
