Now if I don't see a Fremen soldier pick up his own arm, severed by a laser blast, and walk away with it, I am going to be disappointed.

Critically acclaimed all-star Dune 2 just barely outgrossed extremely average Fantastic Four $282m-$274m domestically.

Hard to imagine Dune 3 being any sort of a problem for an Avengers movie featuring seemingly every member of the last 25 years of Marvel/Fox movies all in one production and RDJ as Dr. Doom.

Dune 2 outcrossed FF by almost $200M worldwide.

Domestic numbers aren't very relevant anymore except for opening weekend records.

Sounds like the next trailer will be with The Odyssey as well.

As for the prologue, over the weekend, to a friend who has direct knowledge of the situation, I said, "It sounds like we might be getting the Dune: Part Three prologue in IMAX with The Odyssey," to which they replied with a very knowing smile, "Sure does sound like it."

So, yeah, I'm basically taking that as confirmation.

I need them to do a 3 movie b2b2b for this.

Still curious how they handle the Paul-Chani story

Still rumored to premiere with IMAX showings of The Odyssey next week, but we shall see...

Face Dancer Chani? Otherwise I really hope they don't go with the "they're lovers but one must be assassinated by the other for the greater good". It DID NOT work for game of thrones...

My most anticipated of the year. First trailer was incredible. I'm not watching anymore or speculation. I mentioned this in the threads before Dune Part II but I'm not a huge fan of Frank Herbert's writing. It's fine, but I found the movies to be more entertaining for me than the book. Haven't read any future ones so looking forward to Denis' vision on this one.

Starting to get this vibe, my only complaint with the second movie is where it ended with Chani. I think part of the big moral hazard with Paul is that he is likable and charismatic and he's supposed to be, I will not like this movie if they go space Hitler and make him overtly evil. It would totally be a disservice to Frank Herbert.

Have you read it? That's exactly what Dune is about.

The question here will be how much DV has changed the plot versus the books because he obviously did that at the end of the second movie. I'm assuming he has combined Messiah and Children of Dune into this movie because Messiah as a stand-alone movie would not test well with general audiences.

Edit: I somehow didn't catch all of your comment upon first read. Agree with you that if they make Paul space Hitler then this will be disappointing, but it won't surprise me if he's truly combined the Children of Dune and God Emperor into this next movie.

Don't rebuke me you dirty honored matres, you ain't no Miles Teg( if that doesn't make it obvious I've read all 6 of Franks books I don't know what would). Seriously though we agree on that, that's why it's important for Paul to be likable and charismatic while still being a tyrant. It drives home the message when people leave the theatre thinking "I would follow that man into a jihad anywhere", then digest the real lesson over the coming days and weeks.

This is what I hate about politics, too many politicians are monsters and awful human beings while being loved for their silver tongue and charming smiles. Frankly the more charismatic a politician is, the more I try to be suspicious.

I would love for them to make another trilogy. Or at least 2 movies. You could do an extended prologue for God Emporer and just do the last 2. I really enjoyed all the books.

I've probably said this multiple times but the final arc was my favorite. Miles Teg is a BAMF and the Bene gesserit are one my favorite organizations in sci-fi.

Yeah it was fun and sexy and weird. I thought the storyline was pretty cool and original and loved the ending.

I don't know what director could pull it off though.

You've read more than me. I took a break after God Emperor and haven't gone back yet. GE was so hard core philosophy with almost nothing happening that I had to take a break. I know the later books get back to more stuff going on.

Based on the ending of part 2 and then this new trailer it looks like Chani is being used as the audience's moral compass sort of. Instead of Paul's decisions and the jihad that unfolds from it making him bad, she's there to tell us he's bad. I get losing some of the subtlety for the movies, but not sure I would like a full on exposition-y demonstration of this.
Despite me thinking the first two movies were great, I think they did an awful job depicting the broader consequences of Paul's decisions. In the movies I don't even really remember him weighing the options or evaluating the jihad outcomes gravely. Seems like that's what Chani will be for.

Added spoiler tags.

I am intrigued with how they will reconcile the ending of Part 2 with what happens in the books, but I do believe Villanueve will be more nuanced than this. She is definitely going to be a moral compass of sorts, but perhaps to flesh out in dialogue or action more of the internal things going on in Paul in the book?

Yep, which is why he had to combine those books into one film.

This thread is basically turning into a book spoilers thread, which the OP literally rejected in the thread title. Because of how much Denis has seemingly deviated from the book, even book readers have no idea what information they provide could end up being a spoiler. Is there not a thread for spoilery discussions?

I was under the impression this thread was for pure speculation and current news about the movie.

There is literally another thread on the front page that some of these same people are posting on. I'm personally not concerned about spoilers for this but I definitely thought I was on the wrong thread at first.

Apologies. I get lost on what threads I'm on sometimes when we have multiple threads on same topic.
