IMO, I don't think Penguin was ever meant to be a primary villain. More than anything, he's like a cockroach who can't be killed, mostly hiding in the walls, but we'll see him scurry across the floor from time to time. He only had "five or six" scenes in the first movie, so that sounds about right for the second movie as well. Maybe in the third movie he'll have a bit more to do, or at least one, last memorable showdown with Batman. And probably another season of TV just before that, it sounds like.

As for the true villain for Part II, it's looking more and more like the Court of Owls, and then one of either Hush, Clayface, or maybe even Mr. Freeze. Those seem to be the leading rumored candidates as of now. Then, of course, there's talk of limited appearances from Riddler and Joker again (with Joker all but confirmed to be the main villain in the third movie). In other words, there's no shortage of potential there, and Batman will more than have his hands full in that regard.

Man, what a series. Oz is a despicable ogre yet at times you feel sympathy for him. Superbly written and acted. Sophia is much the same way, although I would say she didn't come in with a known back story like the Penguin did. Vic was something of a tragic character, insofar as he had an option to escape to a potentially better life away from Gotham with his girlfriend, but chose a life in Gotham with Oz instead. His death was probably the least surprising part of the finale.

Time for a re-watch of The Batman. And damn it, I want Part II now!

Nice touch by playing a version of Where Did You Sleep Last Night while Sophia was burning her house down. That song was covered by Nirvana.

This scene alone took me on such a roller coaster ride. There I am thinking Vic is gonna make it and be apart of Oz's schemes only for Oz to blindside him and take him out. The worst part for me was how Vic struggled and you could see the shock on his face.

Such a fantastic show

I'm also thinking now that Oz has convinced himself that he didn't kill his brothers or that they just died on their own when they drowned.

He's crossed over to being insane, with his sociopathy, the brother situation, and how he is treating his mom/Eve.

I also saw something about how Eve's last name is Karlo, and how she always changed her appearance (even looking like his mom at the end). Clayface's name in the comics? Basil Karlo. His original shape shifting was just disguises with molding clay on his face, not being a mud monster.

Interesting observation. I am excited to see where this Batman world goes with the villains. They seemed to blue some lines already with The Riddler and Hush, morphing Eve into Clayface could play well too. I am out of my depth when it comes to the origins of these characters and how they can be used in a film/series in the Reeves world.

If they stick with the pseudo realism in the first movie and the show, then Court of Owls is a prime big bad with other villains like Hush, Black Mask, etc would be a good fit. Especially since they have little to no screen time form previous movies.

It really was a clever way to do the series. In the movie, you rooted against him. In the series, you rooted for him until the end of the final episode of the season. Now I'm ready to root against him again for the next movie.

Sofia burning the house down was another Nirvana song of Where Did You Sleep Last Night like Batman using Something in the Way

Mythbusters taught us that you can't light gasoline with a cigarette. I'll admit it looked cool, but do better.

The gangs #2 killing #1 reminded me of the Godfather murder montage ending

Amazing makeup work for Farrell to give the deathbed and Vic performance through the prosthetics.

Penguin took a long look at the Mayor. Foreshadowing future political aspirations?

Kid Penguin was great. Even if at times it sounded like he was auditioning to be in Guys and Dolls

On paper, I get the logic of it. But it just didn't work for me. It felt like the plot needed it more than a real character moment for me.

If it was all about removing all weakness, he should've killed his mother too.
It wasn't JUST removing weakness - it was removing a threat as well.

His whole monologue to Sofia of how he got the drop on her also helps explain the reasoning. He used the #2s in each org to take out the boss - even explained how they were always treated like nothing until they got their chance. He wasn't going to let his #2 be there for the same potential shot at him.

Cool about the owl curtains but it's not a courtroom. The mayor isn't a judge.

I see Oz in a Palpatine-type role for the series going forward.

The main villains in each movie will likely either be working for him, or with him.

In the discussion for the best thing I've seen this year. That was a hell of a finale, and that last scene with Vic...

Entertaining enough, I think. I did enjoy it but I agree with some of the previous posters re: sloppy/super convenient writing. However, it may be worth the watch for the acting alone. Penguin/Sophia were obviously really good… but did anyone else thing the guy playing Vic was really good as well? One of my favorite performances I've seen recently.

Finished up. If they wanted me to hate Penguin by the end they succeeded.

However, Vic could still be alive. Oz just walked off and left him there.

Stuttering Robin still in play. Original Robin lost his family too so there are loose parallels here.

I think the most likely use of the Penguin in Batman 2 is as a source for Batman against the Court of Owls.

Oz now has control of Gotham's crime syndicates, but is not the type that the Court would let into their ranks. Likely the Court is proving to be a road block for him in fully gaining control and he will want to help Batman take them down.

The end of Batman 2 might be a Gotham where Batman has unwittingly help Oz get total control of Gotham.

That sets up well for a 3rd act/movie where Batman is now going after the Penguin who is using the Joker to try to kill Batman (who has turned his focus to the Penguin). That would create a good final arc for Oz as his eventual downfall (i.e., killed by the Joker) is underestimating a mad man just like everyone else underestimated him.

Man, seeing them watch that scene at Monroe's... It really was incredible acting all around.

Which of them deserves the Emmy?

I have always wondered how actors feel towards incredibly dramatic scenes they did. Colin seems to try to keep from really paying attention to the scene, as if it was an actual traumatic event in his life he doesn't want to relive.

You telling me the flashback scene I AD'd in Dude Bro Party Massacre III where Motherface is standing in a pool of gasoline and then the naked chick lights Brock's cigarette and he takes a drag then says "looks like you're flame... ******ed" then flicks the cigarette and burns her a live can't happen in real life?
