I wonder if he could have done this show without the fatsuit. Would the accent, mannerisms, and makeup alone played?

The writers have killed these scripts and Farrell and Milioti are killing their performances.

Fat penguin or we'd riot.

I prefer what they did, but it could work. The Gotham version of Penguin was pretty popular among the Batman/DC fan base

You mean the skinny penguin that had a gay fling with Riddler?

That show was pathetic, and I hope it's wiped from Batman lore for all times

This.

Penguin needs to be fat and kinda gross looking, think they've done a fantastic job with CF. I wouldn't be able to watch it with normal in shape CF.

Penguins are fat and waddley. The Penguin should be fat and waddley.

Minus the gay fling, it was a pretty good interpretation, given how it was a network show and not on HBO

Hell, now I'm rooting for Sofia! I don't know who to label the "hero" of this show, and I love it, lol.

What a performance. The Arkham shock sequence was so well done and jarring.

Incredible episode. This show continues to get better and better.

This was Milioti's Emmy episode. Both her and Farrell are frontrunners right now IMO.

I don't know if a show has ever made bad characters so sympathetic other than Breaking Bad. (Haven't seen Sopranos)

But man, you felt like you were in Arkham right along with her.

Game changer of an ending. Can't wait to see where it goes from here.

The vibes I'm getting are very Breaking Bad and Ozark, where the walls seem to be closing in for our characters, only for them to make massive game-changing moves.

Best show on TV right now.

I absolutely love how they turned Falcone's sick kink in The Batman - strangling Annika, Selina's mother, and then Selina herself (before Batman saved her) - into an entire thread/backstory for this show, one that completely changed our opinion of Sofia and her plight. That was so damn good and yeah, I'm now somehow "rooting" for her more than even Oz. By season's end, I originally assumed Oz would "win" and be the sole boss left - and that may still be the case - but now I'm going be disappointed if Sofia isn't in The Batman Part II as well. For the time being, though, we're exactly halfway through the season, the backstories have been revealed, all cards are on the table, the sides are chosen, and I can't wait to see where everything goes from here.

Man, what an episode. Great performance by Cristin Milioti.

So why did she wait until after Oz left her for dead to kill off her family? Was that the straw that broke the camels back for her in realizing no one is on her side? Or was this just the first opportunity she had since her uncle backed her into a corner by saying she had 48 hours to leave town.

The entire episode was basically to show that this was the reason.

Great episode. Milioti was amazing. This feels like Sofia was the story the creators wanted to tell, and they put it in a Penguin wrapper in order to get it made

Magpie is a low level Batman comic villain.

Yep. And I agree that I'm pretty much on her side now.

If it's down to Sofia vs Oz for the rest of the season, I fully empathize with Sofia at the moment. She has every reason to hate Oz.

I feel like her conversation with Rush was her lightbulb moment, you can see it as she lights up about a fresh start.

Damn, this episode rocked! Speaking of rocked, Sofia was rocking that yellow dress, damn she looked good.

My only question is how did Johnny survive the gas? She seemed to expect him to be awake and not dead but how on earth could she know the level of gas that would permeate each room? Did she close off the vents?

Also, she took a big risk that the kid doesn't wake up and go back in the house to either die herself or wake up her parents who might figure out something is up and flee.

They made a point of her opening the window in that bedroom before the chocolate cake scene with the kid, so I'm thinking the open window is the explanation.

She opened the window. In general there is quite a bit of belief suspension needed for how she did this one overall, but still a good story. Really enjoying the season

Id think for most people watching the show, opening the window was enough to understand that she intended for him to live and everyone else die.

Who wouldn't close a randomly opened window before going to bed though?

There's going to be a monster who can shapeshift in the next movie. Probably best to suspend reality when watching this series.

This is partly what I meant by belief suspension. That and usually people are gonna be getting sick vs just dying mostly silently. But again, it's still a comic based story so these are no big deal

The main thing I'm having to suspend disbelief on right now is how Sophia would place even one ounce of trust in Oz after he ratted her out and sent her on that decade long sentence.

Obviously, he didn't know the extent of what would happen to her but I think I'm going to need more backstory to really strengthen their past relationship for her to even remotely give him a shot after that.

That's pretty much what 75% of the story has been about for the first 3 episodes, leading to the moment at the end of episode 3/beginning of episode 4, where the rebuilt trust was shattered (for good I assume).

It looked dike she connected the furnace output to the ducting in the basement. Which would flood the house with CO. CO is odorless, colorless gas that prevents you from intaking Oxygen. CO is the leading cause of death from poisoning in the US. You have flu like symptoms, dizziness, and then you are unconscious, and it can happen pretty quick.

Maybe. It just seems like she has a vendetta against everyone involved but somehow she's willing to forgive Oz when he was really the one that caused it all for her.

Like I said, if when he was her driver he protected her from an assault or kidnapping or something, saved her life, etc. and they had that kind of bonding moment, I could see how she'd be torn between hating him vs. forgiving him.

IMO, she had a lot of hate and anger towards everyone, but the vendetta didn't materialize until after Oz double-crossed her with the Maroni's.
