Great E2. Didn't realize he was already known as the Penguin. Was thinking we were buildling to that. Not that I really care.

Batman calls him "the Penguin" in the movie, when they first see the pictures left by the Riddler.

This show continues to be so damn good.

Not a ton of action or suspense this episode, but the character work is incredible.

The acting is top notch. The suspense is good too. Pretty good show.

Most of this episode felt like an Emmy roll for Farrell. The facial expressions are incredible considering all the junk they have glued to his head.

This show started out at a high level and has only gotten better each episode.

It really is becoming a truly memorable, almost iconic performance. Farrell/the makeup team have turned him into such a distinct character in terms of his look/mannerisms, while the writing team continues to make him so incredibly complex. I can't remember the last time I was actively rooting for such a despicable character, yet here we are. He's just so compelling to watch.

Biden?

(I kid, I kid.)

Such a great series thus far. Top-notch writing and acting. Waiting for Sunday night's rough.

This is literally the best comic-book based TV series ever made. And not even a character that the un-informed would think of as a comic book character - every bit of this is dripping with realism and believability with absolutely nothing that looks like it belongs in a comic book based story. Colin Farrell may waddle like a penguin (with a perfectly logical explanation), but there's no vocalisms such as Burgess Meredith gave the character in the 60s show, and at the same time, he is not a repulsive character such as Danny DeVito's take on Oswald Cobblepott. I also like that they are calling him Oz, no reason to have done that really other than it just sounds like something these people would call him rather than Oswald (with a possible negative association to a patsy who assassinated a president).

Also, Oswald sounds stuffy and "high society", which this Penguin is most definitely not, starting out as merely Sofia's driver.

Vic reminds me a lot of Forest Whitaker in his physical mannerisms and how he talks. Not the stuttering, but every other part of that. Something in the eyes.

Does he sleep in a bank vault, but it still has windows to the outside?

Finally caught up and watched Episode 3 last night.
Excellent story development, and you got to love how Oz apologizes to Sofia and then leaves her (potentially for dead) within 2 minutes. And he does it all with a smile on his face, as he zips off.

I honestly don't know who's putting on a better performance, Farrell or Milioti.

Both are absolutely killing it.

Agreed. They both have ways of communicating so much, with just their eyes. Everything about this show is knocking it out of the park IMO. They are almost making you root for Oz, which just leads me to believe by the end of the season he's going to go full on monster/villain. Which concerns me for our boy Victor.

Yeah, this. The Penguin/Vic relationship is forming in an almost Walter White/Jessie Pinkman way. While Vic may not be quite the sleazeball Jessie was at the beginning of BB, I'm guessing that the story ends up the same - Oz, like Walter, might be fascinating to watch but ultimately we end up rooting against him because we see the corruptive damage he's doing to his protege Vic, who is the true protagonist hero of the story.

Definitely got vibes from this scene from Breaking Bad although the roles are reversed.

Oz & Vic are a cross between WW & Jesse and Tony Soprano & Chrissy.

To keep with the Walter white comparison, and especially after he was fine with letting Vic go in this episode, I see one of two things happening: either that was the foreshadowing of Vic wanting to leave again and Oz doesn't let him the next time, or somehow Oz kills the girl ala WW killing Jane

Yeah I described this to some friends the other day as a cross between Breaking Bad and The Sopranos.

I'm not sure I agree. Vic coming back was his "breaking" moment. He has chosen the life and what it can provide. I don't think we see her again.

That is what I think too. I can see Vic now becoming Oz's right hand man. Not sure what character that would become or if he gets taken out by someone which makes Oz become very cold.

This is what I predict. Vic gets taken out in front of Oz, and he loses any "good" he had left in him.

I hope they find a good resolution for Vic because I'm not sure I can watch Batman beat the crap out of this kid if he becomes Oz's #1 henchman. It would make me sad.

Perhaps one of these comic book historians can join in, is there a character like Vic in any of the comics?

Vic and the Madame (Oz's love interest whom he assured wouldn't get hurt for the alibi) die along his climb to the top of the underworld, and then his Mom passes just before he tells her he achieved it and can give her all that he's promised (alternatively she fully succumbs to dementia and can't appreciate it).

Everything tastes like ashes and love has been ground out of him. The Penguin is born.

Maybe, Im thinking he is going to just end up making a decision to "give up" Oz

Watching with subtitles…

Penguin goes to meet the triads….

Subtitles "speaking mandarin"

K…..

Wait and then told the triad underboss she's knows about "his dad being driven out of Taiwan" - these writers know where triads come from?

But awesome show. Be back with more live tweets

That's probably a nod to the Chinese overlords of Hollywood.
Like the NBA, they go out of their way to not criticize China or the CCP

That's… no longer really a thing. Seeing as hardly any of this stuff even plays in China anymore. Basically, for years China studied everything we were sending them movie/shows-wise, then eventually built up their own "Hollywood," and now most entertainment they consume is home-grown/"more attuned to the tastes of Chinese audiences," with way fewer imports. That, and they simply got sick of our slop…

Watched episode 3 this morning, man this show is just so dang good. The whole sequence when Vic was on the roof when the bombs went off and the city flooded including the vibrating roof. This episode gave me some Once Upon a Time in New York vibes with Vic's storyline. I legit keep forgetting that's Colin Ferrell playing Oz until I watch the recap and he's talking about the episode without being in makeup. This show is better than I ever expected it would be. The plot, the acting, the scenery, there's just so much detail put into the show.
