Could have been better with about two less episodes in the season as the gay/lesbian storylines were just done to raise the DEI score. I guess the wholesome feel of it was too much for the woke crowd.
I didn't like Keely/Jack story line as it felt really forced & bungled.

The gay soccer player storyline didn't bother me one bit.. that kind of stuff happens in all sports and all of life. It brought Trent out & humanized him a little. The gay storyline also caused the rage scene with Cpt. McAdoo which led to Roy Kent's amazing speech to the press... (we don't know what other people are going through) which is one of the best scenes in the entire series IMO.

Also... "wholesome feel"? People were sleeping with each other all over the place, there's Coach Beard & his girlfriends S&M, all the soccer players are man wh*res, even the good guy Danny is knocking down groupies 2 at a time. It wasn't like this was Leave it to Beaver & then they randomly through in some homosexual stuff. Sheesh.

i thought they absolutely nailed the finale. as someone mentioned, ted not being at beard's wedding was my only immediate nitpick.

while it sucks to be losing two of my favorite shows (succession and ted lasso) at the same time, i'm so glad that they both really stuck the landing.

Great ending. Hit the right cords at every turn. Cried like a little ***** at least 4 times.

There is zero chance in hell this show does not get a spinoff. No way Apple lets this money maker fall to the side.
so there's multiple ways a spinoff could go, but after that finale, i'd say the odds-on favorite has to be focused on Richmond's new Women's team, right?

I thought Ted not being at Beard's wedding was because it was part of the dream he was having on the plane?

was it clear that beard's wedding was part of a dream? when did ted meet the meathead guy who chased beard around town and then saved him?

I fully intend on watching the finale again because of how great it was. So many shows can't stick the landing but this one did. My recollection was that Ted fell asleep on the plane, we get a montage of all the great things happening like Keeley's PR firm back up, Rebecca running into one night stand boat man at the airport, the barbecue everyone came to, Beards wedding, and then the flash back to him on the plane waking up abruptly. I thought they intended to make us think it was a dream, or maybe it was a look into what had yet to come.

I took it in a similar way to the Scrubs finale (the one with the original cast, not when they brought in Franco and others) - another finale that Bill Lawrence nailed perfectly.

JD and Elliott watched "their his future" together in a movie (getting married, having kids, their kids playing with Turk and Carla's kids, etc.) which let the audience see how things played out after the show was over.

Edit: just re-watched on YouTube and it was only JD seeing it (similar to Ted).

I thought season 3 overall was the weakest season, but I still really enjoyed it. I'm only benchmarking the show against itself so I still hold it in high regard. It was a perfect finale for this show, and they respected the arc of all the characters in my opinion. They couldn't just make the finale about Ted, they also needed to take care of Rebecca, Beard, Roy, Nate, Jamie, Keely, and so on.

The best scene in my opinion was Ted and Rebecca sitting in the stadium, just the two of them. Each knew it was the end of that chapter, but didn't really want it to be. Ted not saying anything was huge, when I get emotional it's hard to say anything, that's what really hit me in that scene.

I contend that this is arguably the most unique show I can think of. While it's a comedy at it's core it also addresses mental health in a smart and compassionate way. And it just makes you feel good, it's therapeutic. I can't remember watching a show that just makes you feel better if you're down. I've just turned it on before when I've had a bad day and it's made me feel better.

I'll miss this show but I'm really happy that we got to spend the time we did with it.

From Coach Beards (Brendan Hunt) AMA on Reddit

"Why was Ted Lasso not at coach Beard's wedding to Jane? Felt weird Roy was the best man!"

"There are a few reasons. The first is narrative: Ted just got on a plane and left the UK, it would be anticlimactic and deflating if we suddenly see him back there before we even see his plane lands. The other is that that's just the kind of friendship Ted and Beard have. Case in point is me and Joe Kelly, co-creator of Ted Lasso and one of the best friends I'll ever know. A few years ago I get an email from him and his fantastic girlfriend that they are getting married in LESS THAN A MONTH. The email clearly stated "no worries if it's too short of notice" which was awfully nice of them; I desperately wanted to be there but I couldn't. They had scheduled to wedding the same day as a show I was doing in another city, if I recall correctly. So I missed the wedding, and guess what: no one cares! Our relationship is the exact same, our families live down the street from each other and we see each other all the time. So personally I think Beard called Ted and told him he could sit this one out, and Ted said thanks, because the ceremony conflicted with a big game for Henry's soccer team. The history of their relationship IMO is long periods of seeing each other and long periods not. We have entered one of the latter, but the former will come around again at some point. They love each other, they will see each other again. They love each other, they will see each other again"

I'm sure y'all probably could figure this one out on your own but WB is selling Ted Lasso merch.

My wife and daughter were over at the Warner Brothers Lot a few months ago and discovered that they were selling Ted Lasso stuff in the gift shop so they picked me up a Roy Kent 6 AFC Richmond t-shirt.

I considered that moment to be a meta-commentary about the show. Definitely leaves that door open as a possibility.

I'd agree that Jack and Keeley didn't add much to the show, but I loved the Colin/Trent storyline. Trent is a great character that we got way more insight into, and I thought it took a subject that could've been really preachy and made it very human and heartfelt.

Plus if that wasn't in there we wouldn't have an impetus for random posters who have never posted on this board before to chime in with their incredibly astute observations that we all totally need to hear.

I completely agree. This show was never really about Ted and his journey. This was about the growth of everyone around Ted.

the entire show may not have been directly about Ted, but i think you could argue that every single character's development/growth is either directly or indirectly due to their relationship with Ted.

that comment is just Ted being Ted

I would say it's more about the growth of everyone because of Ted, either directly or indirectly.

Absolutely. That is perfect, self-deprecating, glory / credit eschewing Ted.

But there's no denying that Ted helped bring out the best versions of everyone on and off the field.

Question -- other than those who have not seen it, have you met anyone who does not love this show?

My mom hadn't seen it and I talked about it. I said it is about an American football coach who becomes a soccer coach in London, with a few more minor details. She looked at me like I was crazy for thinking she would like it.

She finally got a new phone and a free Apple TV sub, so she indulged me. Binged the whole thing and called me to tell me that she didn't love all the cussing, but it was her favorite show ever.

Even though I thought season 2 to be...well...dull, Season 1 and Season 3 help make this one of my favorite series to watch.

It's no Endeavor, but still a great way to kill some time on the couch.

It had several instances of the two things I need in any show: Someone to pull for...and a reckoning.

I saw the previews and didn't think I would like it. Finally clicked on it when I was on a flight because I couldn't find anything else. Watched the first two episodes on the plane then had to go resubscibe to Apple TV because I just had to watch the rest. One of my favorite shows of all time.

I loved the commercials and thought it might be good.

I really didn't care for the Major league plot initially, but kept going back to it.

Halfway through the first season I started over and had my wife watch as well.

I always tell people to watch with subtitles or else you'll miss half the jokes the first season.

Don't know if it was already mentioned, but Jason Sudeikis is George Wendt's nephew. Gotta assume that's the reason for the Cheers callback.

I watched it again tonight while working out and caught some things I missed last night:
Ref saying "put'em away George"
Tabloid headline "Nutty Pitch-side Push" or something close
Coach was wearing the same pants at his wedding that he got on Coach after dark
Eta: Roy putting black tape over the pencil drawing of breasts in his new office

I caught lots of call backs but for some reason I completely forgot Ted did the whole pass it here, pass the ball to me please in season 1 with Jamie.
