As an Arsenal fan this idea of a white whale in Manchester City is hitting close to home today.

I thought Trent Crimm's speech at the end was a bit much ("hey, this is what the whole show was about in case anyone missed it!") but really liked it otherwise.

And then S2 he breaks his journalism code by telling Ted, out of respect for Ted, that his source was Nate. I don't think he ever once has loathed Ted. He just didn't think he'd be a good coach at first.
The mustache speech with Roy's 1 liners was classic. The little "you're on fire" from Ted was hilarious.

Count me in the group of people who really enjoyed the episode. This episode and last week's are really helping turn around the overall season for me.
Agree that the last 2 episodes have been great.

I know everyone noticed, but I wanted to comment on Nate not needing to spit in the mirror to build his confidence up. He decided to do it his own way and build the personalized box.
It is significant that he found some inspiration from his dad, which I'm sure will lead to some sort growth for their relationship. At least I hope.

For me, the part of the storyline that mattered the most...Ted and the team...was great.
I enjoyed seeing Jamie take ownership of the team, he just keeps taking steps with every episode and that's been one of the most enjoyable arcs of the season.
I never thought I would ever hear a Blue Collar Comedy reference in an AppleTV+ show, but Ted nailed it. That was great. Loved Roy not being able to help himself with the puns.
The 'kick it hard as you can' scene with Higgins spilling his hot tea (shades of Top Gun) and the perfectly timed 'Juuust a bit outside' Major League reference was GOLD. On a side note, the announcers for each game have reminded me of Harry Doyle throughout the entire series.
They've done a great job of pulling the audience back in with Nate. To start the season with him being one of the most hated, to seeing him with his mom/sister and succeeding on getting the date is not what I was expecting after Ep1. But if they want to fully redeem him, I echo what others have said...I hope they have Nate help someone in a way that doesn't benefit him at all.
The political storyline seemed extremely forced and over-the-top...but the payoff was good. They needed to find a way for Sam to have a deeply vulnerable moment and for the team to come together and help him, and for his father to see why the team means so much to Sam...that part of it was great. His father cooking for the team at the end with Sam brought it back to fit the tone of the show.
Trent's excitement seemed a little cheesy, but like so many characters in this show, it points to how much Ted has taken some hardened personalities and turned them into optimistic believers. That's the heart of what this show is about.
Sure, there are things they throw in the storyline that annoy me, but it doesn't overtake what I love about this show...the heart. And Roy. Lots and lots of Roy.

Imagine thinking we are all watching the show to be lectured to on illegal immigration. That and the punishing Keeley and Jack scenes.

I'm enjoying the season, but Nate's arc is a little strange to me. He seemed to go right back to his old self pretty quickly without really showing what led to the change. I get he has been spending time with family, but that's nothing new. His redemption is more like a relapse.

Never made the Top Gun connection with that but makes sense.
He sees that being a pr*** isn't that great from Rupert. Everyone who drifts away from the Lasso way eventually comes around to seeing that it is the best way -- Trent, Jamie, Roy, Rebecca ("let Ted be Ted"), Richmond fans, Nate and ultimately (guess) Mrs. Lasso.scoop12 said:

maybe this makes me a terrible person, but I just get annoyed with Sam... He is nice, but just stupidly naive and it sort of gets old with me. I do like Jamie's progress, and have always liked Jamie actually, him and Roy to me make the show. Curious if Rebecca's Amsterdam fling comes back in next episode or so... Agree, getting tired of Keely storyline, I see no point in it. Liked it much better with her hanging around with Rebecca, I like seeing their strong friendship displayed between two successful powerful women who aren't out to get each other. It is a positive thing.
If I had to guess, I imagine the writers wanted to attempt to flesh the story out more and give some of the secondary characters (like Keeley) more to do. They didnt want to be perceived as a one note show.
What they didnt realize was, they NAIL that one note and by creating additional stories(that arent very good) they caused the primary draw of the show to be weakened a bit. You can't blame them for trying, but it is a bit disappointing.
Im sure the gay relationship bothers some people, but for me I would feel the same way if it was the traditional "powerful male boss comes in to sweep employee off their feet"..which is essentially how that story is presented. Its boring writing, and makes for boring moments in each episode its featured.
Everything else in the season has been great, and for me more than makes up for one story line not landing.

If this show didn't have Roy and Jaimie I don't think I would laugh at all. Beard is super off the wall and the Ted stuff is eh.
I wonder if there's any relationship between Jack and Rupert, maybe it's the big reveal that Rupert had Jack invest in Keely's company to try and split up her and Rebecca. Kind of far-fetched I know but they never shy away from doubling down how cruel he can be.

the thing i didn't like about the immigration plot is that we already saw Sam take a political stance in a previous season (the oil company sponsor or whatever). that stance was informed largely by his father.
now we get a "shut up and dribble" storyline (which already seems dated since that was from 2018). but this is another instance where it's an issue that Sam was completely clueless about until somebody else (this time his chef) tells him about it. he didn't research the issue, just fired off a tweet based on what his friend told him.
i'm sure some people will have a problem with the storyline just because of the immigration issue, but my point is simply that if they're going that route, why not actually show some character development while you're at it?

It was just a stupid lazy immigration jab that had nothing to do with Sam, as he is a professional footballer not an immigrant coming across the Channel on a raft like the news showed. So he is obviously not even considered the same as "refugees/immigrants". So it was just a lazy and bizarre sub story, when they could have done something more with his character to have a more legitimate platform.
