This is gonna be big. They really ate it up, even when it went places they weren't expecting. Also need to say again - this film is brilliant. Even better watching it a second time, especially with a full audience this enthusiastic and engaged. pic.twitter.com/ZzDkOmcrzq

Has anybody noticed that Oppenheimer is low key dark and edgy af while Barbie is lighthearted and fun, making for a playful dichotomy at the box offices

I dont know anything about movies and what not but isnt the TAM for Barbie much higher than Oppehneimer, being PG-13 v. rated R?TCTTS said:BARBIE tracking is now up to $110M for 3-day weekend, per NRG. OPPENHEIMER up to $49M. Gonna be big weekend, especially if MISSION holds.

Or is this a big deal comparatively that Barbie is fighting above its weight class?

Ha, I will not stand for this rewriting of history. Last summer, on multiple occasions, I predicted that Barbie would be one of the top three movies this summer, box-office-wise, and I got endless sh*t for it. In a summer featuring GOTG3, Fast X, Little Mermaid, Spider-Verse, Flash, Indy 5, M:I7, and Oppenheimer, the vast majority of people here absolutely rolled their eyes at the prospect, hardly anyone knew who was making/starting in it, hardly anyone knew what tone to expect, or that it was going to be a big, irreverent comedy also aimed at adults, etc. Most people just assumed it was going to be some kids movie aimed at little girls. The idea that "everyone" expected it to be a hit is a straight up fabrication.

So ya'll are saying maybe its a non-IMAX 70mm version showing on an IMAX screen?
If that's the case what a ****ing bait and switch scam.
Hey I was with you too! Maybe I didn't post enough on it, but I blue starred many of your posts on this topic.TCTTS said:

That's what I've got tickets for on Thursday night in Burbank.TCTTS said:
I did see one non-IMAX 70mm showing listed at an AMC around here, so maybe that's what it could be.
