It takes place in the immediate aftermath of The Batman and serves as the bridge to The Batman Part II. With Falcone now dead, it's about the criminal power grab in his absence - mainly, about the Penguin vs Falcone's daughter. With Pattinson rumored to cameo in a later episode or two.

I'm still amazed that it's Colin Farrell under all that makeup.

Not from a legit source yet, but there does seem to be some potential smoke here. Would be fantastic casting, if so...

I didn't love the first movie as much as many here but that would add to the universe's phenomenal casting job.

That would be a homerun casting

I'm hesitant to even post this, as the "scooper" peddling this particular rumor is known for throwing sh*t against the wall and only being right like 25% of the time. That said, it would at least make sense of the delays, and on other levels as well...

Basically, he says he's hearing that The Batman Part II AND The Batman Part III are scheduled to film back-to-back/at the same time.

Which, again, would explain the crazy delay from 2025 to 2026, if Reeves is actually writing two scripts instead of one. That the strikes pushed Part II back an entire year, knowing that Reeves had been working on the script for months before the strikes even happened, has never quite made sense to me, but who knows.

Regardless of the cause of the delay, I also don't know that I see Reeves wanting to spend another three to four years, after 2026, on The Batman Part III. Especially after having spent roughly six consecutive years on the Apes movies prior to The Batman. So he'd easily shave a couple years off his Batman stint by making II and III back-to-back/at the same time, he could then move onto to something else after, etc.

Finally, as good as this eventual trilogy will likely be (if Reeves is, in fact, planning a trilogy), I could see Gunn and co potentially liking the idea of Reeves wrapping it up sooner rather than later, so as to not continue to "distract" from the DCU. Perhaps it makes more sense to release II and III in, say, 2026 and 2027, respectively, instead of 2026 and 2029/2030, seeing as the primary/DCU iteration of Batman will simultaneously be out there as well, in those movies.

All that said, again, this is more than likely BS, but it's at least an interesting prospect to consider.

Re: the above, along with another rumor this morning, saying Part II could be delayed past 2026 now, which I don't believe at all. For whatever reason, though, the speculation is running rampant today...

I haven't kept up with anything in DC and this just popped in my feed for some reason....but dang....Colin Ferral seems to disappear in this role just as good as gary oldman can in some of his....

Actually psyched for this. I feel like Colin Farrell is well known because he's a "pretty boy", but i think he's a very underappreciated actor.

It's also cool to see Cristin Milioti in something new. I don't know if it's because of how much her character as the "Mother" was so built up, but damn do I like her.

If that is anything like the 90's cartoon series, it will be a must watch.

Agreed. It would be cool if they made a live action show using those old scripts.

This isn't technically part of "The Batman Universe" (meaning the Robert Pattinson movies/spin-off series), but seeing as it's from Matt Reeves (writer/director of The Batman) here's the full trailer, just released today...

Batman: Caped Crusader
Season 1 (10 Episodes)

That looks like a continuation of the Animated Series, the voice actor for Batman even sounds just like Kevin Conroy. Would be awesome if they bring back Mark Hamil as the Joker

Jeff now all but confirming. I'd be shocked if it's more than a single scene appearance, but still very cool nonetheless...

It could be really cool if we only saw Batman from the villains' perspectives. Like every now and then Batman just appears and throws off their plans, or they perhaps try to sic Batman on each other to further their aims, and we always know he's out there, in the darkest shadows, somewhere. A boogeyman to the Gotham underworld.
Thanks and gig'em

So it was recently announced that...

Quote:

HBO and Max content CEO Casey Bloys is changing the delineation between what an "HBO show" and a "Max show" is, moving most of Max's upcoming big-budget, tentpole Warner Bros. IP projects to under the HBO umbrella.

That means the upcoming "Harry Potter" TV show, as well as the "It" prequel series "Welcome to Derry" and the just-announced Green Lantern adaptation "Lanterns" - in other words, major DC franchise and other big-budget titles - will all now be branded as HBO originals.

Even though "major DC franchises" seemed to cover The Penguin, no one knew for sure, since it wasn't specifically named. But now that a September 8th premiere date has just been set for the series, and considering September 8th is a Sunday - HBO's big, original programming night - it sounds as if The Penguin will, indeed, be a notable Sunday night drama for HBO, instead of a typical Wednesday/Thursday night drop on Max and Max alone.

Which is pretty dang cool.

Granted, in terms of blockbuster genre fare on HBO, Game of Thrones and Damon Lindelof's Watchmen series already broke the Sunday night HBO seal, but I love that more shows like The Penguin are going to have that launch/exposure now, and will feel more special as a result. Hopefully this means they're phasing out "Max Originals" altogether, finally eliminating that confusion once and for all, and simply housing all scripted television under HBO.

For the viewer, what does it mean for something to be an HBO Original or a Max Original? Does it mean that we will have to subscribe to HBO through cable (vs the Max streaming app)? Or is it as simple as a different logo at the beginning?
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
You can subscribe to Max only and still watch anything that airs on HBO the second it's released on HBO.

- HBO shows air primary between 9 PM and 11 PM Eastern on Sunday nights. When they have a fuller schedule, some HBO shows air at 9 PM Eastern on Monday nights as well. Regardless, HBO shows drop on Max the second they air on HBO.

- "Max Originals" have traditionally dropped on Max on Wednesday and Thursday nights. They used to be midnight Eastern drops, but then they moved them up a few hours to around 9 PM Eastern.

Regardless, in addition to a different logo at the beginning, it sounds like all - or close to all - scripted dramas on HBO and Max will now premiere Sunday nights, and that the "Max Original" brand will ultimately be phased out in favor of all shows being under the HBO brand/logo.

Yes, on paper, it's just a matter of a new logo/release date, but there's also a "prestige" factor that comes with HBO Sunday nights as well, they get just a bit more attention, etc.

The average person, including me in there, doesn't know or care about the difference between a Max or HBO show
TCTTS

Okay?

Thanks?

Regardless, this news likely affects what day of the week the show will air, and also matters big picture in terms of the company/streamer itself, which I'm sure at least some people here do care about.

Not to mention, again, because of the HBO branding, and the "prestige" factor that comes with it, the show will now be covered somewhat differently, could be held in higher regard, etc, which I simply find interesting.

Wasn't a comment about you, more the content. But it's a dumb decision to market your content as a Max show vs HBO show when almost everyone doesn't know the difference. It's like saying that Third Rock from the Sun and Friends were aired and produced by different companies when they were both on NBC, but one on a Wednesday and one on a Thursday.

Am I stopped to track the difference between a Max show vs a HBO show so I know which one is higher quality and therefore worth my time when I'm paying for the same service?
TCTTS
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
That's WHY they're making the change.

To correct the stupid differentiation people have been mocking since the launch of the app way back when.

I'm confused as to what you're complaining about, seeing as the whole point of the conversation is that the issue is finally being resolved.

Presumably, there will be no more "Max Originals" from here on out, only HBO.

That said, considering HBO has basically been the king of prestige TV for well over two decades now, in this specific instance, on this specific app, yeah, it definitely mattered which shows were from HBO and which shows were from a completely different creative team at Max. Now that they're all under HBO, and all under one creative team, theoretically we can expect the quality of shows like The Penguin to be even better now, which is something I think we all care about.
