Also folks, keep in mind that TCTTS is the same man who didn't know what Cruella wanted with those Dalmatians. Forgetting who Isildur is doesn't really top the list.

Book V is my favorite in the trilogy. The Battle of the Pelennor Fields chapter gets me every time.Beat40 said:
I am currently doing a reread and am in Return of the King right now. Just finished up the House of Healing.
I will say, as I was reading the chapter Minas Tirith all the way through House of Healing, I kept thinking about this show, the Numenorians, how they built the stronghold of Gondor, and the people of Gondor descending from Numenorians. It was really fun to read Aragorn as Isildur's heir and his declaration of that through the Paths of the Dead and in the Pelennor fields.
I know there are some squabbles with this show, but man, on a reread and getting to put some faces and actions to the great people who made Gondor, it enhances the story for me a little more. It's as you said, the screen making the words you read come to life is a cool feeling.
But the way, the run of Book V - chapters Minas Tirith through The Black Gates might be the best run of chapters in fantasy writing history.
The Rohirrim are my favorite people in the trilogy. I love Tolkien describing them as singing for joy as they are battling in the Pelennor Fields. I love after Eomer knows his king is dead and thinks Eowyn is dead they make a furious charge chanting death as they go along.chase128 said:Book V is my favorite in the trilogy. It will be interesting to see how they cover building these cities with the compressed timeline they have chosen.redline248 said:
I'll redirect some of the piling of tctts....I've never read Dune.
Elendil will have to get busy if he's going to build 3 major cities in this show.
Why the books have such an impact on people can be found right there. The weaving of words together to create images and feelings and emotions inside you.chase128 said:Book V is my favorite in the trilogy. The Battle of the Pelennor Fields chapter gets me every time.Beat40 said:

These staves he spoke, yet he laughed as he said them. For once more lust of battle was on him; and he was still unscathed, and he was young, and he was king: the lord of a fell people. And lo! even as he laughed at despair he looked out again on the black ships, and he lifted up his sword to defy them.Quote:
Out of doubt, out of dark to the day's rising
I came singing in the sun, sword unsheathing.
To hope's end I rode and to heart's breaking:
Now for wrath, now for ruin and a red nightfall!

It took me three tries to read Dune and I wasn't particularly satisfied after finally reading it.
My main reaction was "this is it?"

The casting of the show is excellent, and even better than advertised. Really happy to see the cast giving a lot of interviews to highlight the cultural importance of inclusion.
The stories are for everyone.
Tolkien himself described the Harfoots, the proto-hobbits of "The Rings of Power," as dark-complected. And his physical descriptions are so minimal that scholars disagree about whether he even intended elves to have pointy ears.
All the campaigns against diverse casting are not about the integrity of the art, but rather the unfortunate thoughts of the viewer.
We can do better. The show is a major step forward.
huge disagreement. i am still enjoying the sow, but there is no getting around the fact that a lot of the casting is distractingly bad, and that isnt because of 'racism' as you not so subtlety accuse.Redstone said:

Theo sucked less this episode, but I still hate him.
We are supposed to dislike him right? Is there anyone that likes him on here?

Complaints about elf hair are weird. I expect elves would have different fashions across different groups (Noldor, Sindarin, etc) scattered across the earth over thousands of years.Ol Jock 99 said:
The elf choices are odd. Beardless dwarf ladies? Fine. Every society looking like the UN? No problem.
Just have the elves, whatever human race they may be, look like the Jackonson/Alan Lee elves. The stocky bodies and short hair is just weird.
Waldreg is cool. A real go-getter.DTP02 said:PatAg said:

All of the Southlander humans kinda suck tbh. The best character was the big old dude who was kicking tail before being killed, and he wasn't really developed.
