I swear I heard a bit of Angmar(sp?) theme right after Theo is holding the hilt. Might need to rewatch it.

The other part that I'm wondering now is Halbrand asking Adar if he recognized him. Couple that with Adar saying he "killed" Sauron. They played it off as killing a loved one, but that makes me think he's Sauron.

I thought the Habrand/Adar exchange of Halbrand all cocky saying "Do you remember me?" and Adar responding "No." was great. Such a deflating moment as their past has been seared into Halbrand's memory and has defined his decision-making for the past years. And to just be deflated after finally being able to confront his enemy, just a fantastic response by Adar.

Dumb question so I apologize in advance:

I've never thought about Mount Doom in the fact that it's constantly erupting, is that right? I'm not sure I remember that in the books but could be very wrong.

So is it constantly erupting because that damn has broken and there's a constant stream of water going into it? That doesn't sound right to me especially with the scenes of the forging of the one ring and its subsequent destruction. Plus the new environment wouldn't necessarily condone a free flowing river unless the underground tunnel system is protecting it from the elements.

If that's not it, we just have to accept that Mount Doom is constantly erupting due to "reasons"? Or that Sauron's power is making it erupt.

Overall this isn't a big deal but what just curious if other's had some explanation.

It's pretty much assumed in LOTR that Sauron's powers are causing it to erupt.

This. In the LotR, Sauron sends ash and such from Mt Doom to cover the land ahead of his armies. It's viewed as more of a power of his, not a natural thing.

Very cool. Really am enjoying this show much more than I thought I would.

At this point I'm ready for the Sauron appearance. Feels like that's going to be the last 5 minutes of the last episode of the season the way things are going right now.

I hope they show Sauron in episode 7 and let episode 8 be the fallout from that with Sauron in his alternate form starting to cause distrust.

I don't think we get a "reveal" of Sauron this season. My guess is that's going to be end of season 2. I bet we get a mysterious visitor to Celebrimbor to show him how to "save the elves" by using mythril to forge the elven rings of power. Technically, that is Sauron, but he won't be revealed as such, and I doubt they make it all that obvious that it is.

Which is a shame. I think the constant "mystique" of who is or is not Sauron really detracts from the story, but that is my opinion.

I do think they are playing a bit on the existing knowledge that Sauron has an alternate form. If that knowledge didn't exist, the way this show is written, I think we'd just be waiting to see the big bad. So in that sense, I agree with your opinion that who Sauron is or not is not helping the show. I think Sauron needs to show up and be seen influencing things.

From there I wouldn't mind it playing out in one of two ways:

1) Treat Sauron as essentially a Thanos type character where the audience knows who his alternate form is and knows how Sauron is influencing things.

2) Keep Sauron's alternate form a mystery for the audience to figure out. As long as Sauron is out in the open and we get to see his actual form influencing bits, I don't mind the mystery of trying to decipher who his alternate form is.

You mean the stakes are high for a tv show to put a face on the most iconic, faceless, pure evil god in all of the entire history of fiction literatur? Lol, i really hadnt thought that through till now. yep, i'd say that's a pretty tough bar.

I think that this is coming from Sauron in some form. I am just saying the mithril hammer was a creation for the games.

No, I get that.

But I'm thinking about how, physically, the rings of power would need to be smithed and worked... gonna take something magical and powerful to do it - I don't think a regular old smith hammer would work on the rings - so I can see that being worked into the storyline.

Haven't they already shown us Feanor's hammer? He crafted the Simarils so it isn't just an ordinary hammer.

In the books Orthanc is built by Dunedain, not Elves. Eregion (where this tower is to be built) is on the West side of the Misty mountains and abandoned by the time Frodo and the Fellowship travel through during the third age.

No. Or at least, it shouldn't be. Orthanc is built by Gondor at the height of its power.

It's in Ost-in-Edhil, which is the capital of Eregion.

Looking at a map, It would be West of the Misty Mountains, a little ways south of where Rivendell eventually is. If memory serves, it should be at the intersection of two rivers coming from the mountains.
