Very cool. But aren't almost all projectors digital now? I can't keep up.

Yeah, I think that there are, like, less than 15 true, 1.43:1 IMAX screen/theaters left nationwide. The rest are laser projection.

Correction… 25 theaters nationwide.

They shot this at the only true (public) IMAX screen in town, the AMC Universal CityWalk, aka Universal Sh*ttyWalk, aka the ninth circle of hell. I pick the Chinese Theater IMAX over this one every time, but as fun as the Chinese can be, it technically isn't true IMAX, so I think I'm finally going to have to bite the bullet this summer for the major spectacles. As much as I hate Sh*ttyWalk, I need to start seeing the Nolan/Villeneuve/Mission: Impossible movies as god intended, in their true, 1.43:1 IMAX aspect ratio, in the exact theater Nolan uses to calibrate his films.

Well that's a pretty huge disservice to all the kids under 13 who will be dying to see this...
I'm sure both of them will find a way.

It's a tourist trap. Basically the restaurant-and-shops section of Universal Studios, filled with, like, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, Johnny Rockets, the most depressing Hard Rock Cafe, the cheesiest piano bar, toy stores, hundreds of sweaty park goers, screaming children, unsupervised teens, etc. That, and parking is insane. I just feel gross and lame and annoyed every time I go.

Oh, cmon. You don't want to hear a 10 minute version of Sweet Caroline in a piano bar? So good, so good!

That's interesting. I see several IMAX advance tickets at Regal IMAX theaters that are not in that list.

Maybe that's for the Full Frame IMAX 15 Perf 70mm Film. Not sure.

Years ago we were killing time and checking that area out. Watched the crystal skull Indiana Jones there. That was definitely ****ty.

For those in the West Houston / Katy / Richmond area, it does appear that the Regal Grand Parkway will have this in IMAX. I saw Top Gun Maverick there but wasn't really impressed with the quality of the seats compared to the Katy-area Cinemark and AMC locations.

I have no idea what format of IMAX this theater is (says "IMAX WITH LASER" on their web page).

All the ImAX theaters in Houston I've been too have terrible seating. It's old school.

I think the XD experience is much better overall.

I may have to travel to SA or Dallas to see this one as Nolan intended though.

Found the set. Shooting under the initials "GF." A store front in Sierra Madre (next to Pasadena). Really cool little throwback town square area with all kinds shops and restaurants. Ha, I had no idea this was even here. I dig this area. No shooting yet, though. Looks like only prep so far.
Quote:

It's literally just an old-looking store front and they're prepping the windows. No camera crews or anything yet, just set prep. My friend who tipped me off, who's working on it, said it's for a grocery store. Said they're filming all over the area for the next few days, though. I totally get the appeal of the area too. Definitely a mid-century vibe with old-looking shops/restaurants, craftsman houses nearby, beautiful mountains in the background, etc.

May come back in a couple days and see if I can catch any actual filming. Seems super easy to just stand on the other side of the street and watch.

This is the scene shot not too far from my house, when I drove over to see if I could catch anything...

I think the amc theater in Shenandoah is the best option outside of going to SA
