I don't know what the "sensitive content" thing is about in that one tweet. There's nothing even remotely "sensitive" or NSFW or anything like that.

It's funny how this has become such a tradition, basically every two to three years, since summer 2007. A year out, a Nolan teaser drops, but only in theaters first, I inevitably watch a crappy bootleg copy on my computer, see the real thing in theaters the next day, then wait for the official version to be released online, usually early the next week (save for Tenent). And I've come to love every minute of it. It's so damn fun.

Really cool. If you're ever in Albuquerque, the Nuke museum is really a cool place to spend an afternoon.

So the brief glimpses of footage we get, save for the full-frame shots of swirling fire, all look to be in black and white? If so, I don't know how I feel about that. I mean, Surely the majority of a massive summer blockbuster isn't in black and white? Then again, if anyone could get away with it/pull it off, I guess it's Nolan.

Well you knew he wouldn't get away from messing with time. Obviously time reference with the countdown and it sure looked like the explosion was going backwards.
TCTTS

Yeah, it starts with what looks like aftermath sparks floating in reverse, then every shot of fire after that definitely gets more swirly/big/violent, and is all moving in reverse as well. So weird (and cool). I love the countdown clock as well.
Sea Speed

So the day the world changed was the bomb detonation but the countdown is to the explosion. I'm sure he does something with multiple timelines or something. One from post explosion backwards and from conception of the idea forward or something and they meet in the middle

Ftr I have zero belief this will be what the movie is, just fun to speculate knowing his m.o.

It's tricky, because the countdown - 11 months, 24 days, etc - is nearly the exact time from now until the movie itself releases. So I don't know if that's a trailer thing, counting down to the movie - or - if in the movie, there's an 11-month, 24-day countdown to the bomb detonation. Or, it could be both. Either way, it's kind of brilliant.

I actually wondered if the countdown was going to change or if this teaser is only showing for the early showings of nope and other iterations won't have the countdown or will hqve revised and accurate numbers.
Sea Speed

And I feel like there was definitely a big countdown to when they detonated the first bomb so I would hazard to guess the countdown is relevant to the movie.

Ha, was literally just wondering the same thing. That seems excessive, but who knows!

I feel like I remember some other movie doing a countdown to the movie dropping but it may have just been viral marketing stuff. Maybe a jj Abrams flick.

I think that was the new Matrix movie, right?
Sea Speed

I honestly don't know. I didn't see any marketing at all for that film so if it did do this, I was not aware of it.

Comes out the same day as Oppenheimer…

I'm pretty sure Cillian murphy time traveled here from the days of yore. He fits those throwback roles so well.

It's so funny that this and Barbie are opening the same day, the contrast couldn't be bigger. So many references, jokes, ironic tweets to it online.

And that poster is like, the greatest movie poster ever.

I could see Barbie eventually moving. I think WB stuck it there, on the 21st, to kind of screw with Nolan, seeing as he left them for Universal after all that HBO Max drama. Because that July spot has always been his, and Oppenheimer had long been parked there when WB announced the Barbie date.

But Madame Web just left its July 7 date (and moved to October), so I could see Barbie moving up to take that spot now. Barbie could even be a big July 4th movie, considering the "all-American-ness" of the property, how great the cast is, how much buzz it's already getting, etc.

All I know is that's going to be an INSANE four-week stretch...

And yet Barbie *might* make more money than all of them.

Oh please. Indy will outgross it with its eyes closed.

I don't even think it's hyperbole to say that is potentially the biggest five weeks worth of releases in modern History if they all happened. Three of the biggest franchises ever, the biggest director alive, and a movie with two of the biggest stars on the planet. Can't think of anything that compares really.

Do you know how many women of ALL ages are going to show up for Barbie? That, and based on paparazzi pics alone, it's already reached a level of buzz most movies only dream of. It's going to be a massive, massive hit, and easily one of the most popular movies of the summer. Will Indy beat it out? Most likely, hence my use of "might." I'm just saying, don't be so quick to count Barbie out.

I think you might be right. That's a great way of framing it. I still can't believe we get a Mission: Impossible movie AND a Christopher Nolan movie within seven days of each other. Throw in the great buzz I've heard on Indy 5, just two weeks earlier, and it's almost overwhelming. To say nothing of how charming Barbie will likely be with that cast and the writer/director behind it. It's weird that the Marvel movie is the one I'm least looking forward to, but after Ms. Marvel, even that one could be pretty fun.

I would be surprised if barbie is even top 3. Little women barely grossed 200 million, I do not think it breaks 500 mil.

Just because it's the same director doesn't mean those two movies are remotely comparable, though. Barbie is one of the most famous brands on the planet, featuring an incredibly hot cast starting in a big, colorful, summer blockbuster comedy. Little Women, on the other hand, was drab, depressing Oscar bait that came out in the dead of winter (even though I thought it was incredibly well done).

You are weirdly defensive about this Barbie movie.

To get us back on topic, given all these releases, and what we've seen today, I'm super curious as to how Oppenheimer will perform. On one hand, *every* Nolan movie is obviously an event, and this one in particular features maybe one of the most stacked casts ever assembled. So it has that going for it. But on the other hand, it also appears to be either partially in black & white, if not fully in black & white, and is a biopic that isn't inherently "blockbuster" in nature. It almost feels like it's better suited for fall, like in October, somewhere in that Dune/First Man/Joker/Social Network slot. But seeing as I seriously doubt it moves from July 21, it's facing some insanely stiff competition, and I just have no idea how it's going to fare.

Ha, only because I'm getting the same Spidey sense about Barbie as I did about Top Gun, when I said it was going to massive, and everyone basically laughed at/dismissed me.

I don't think it's necessarily fair to compare a period piece to a summer blockbuster that's tied to a globally recognized brand. Especially when you add in two bankable stars like Robbie and Gosling.
