Then I see this, and I'm like - I definitely don't have that many clamps! So I figure i can make the smaller ones pretty easily and use my rockler hand screw clamps for the top/bottom. They won't look as fancy, but they'll get the job done.

That's awesome. Where do you source your wood? I don't have a bench planer so I haven't made my own body yet. I also don't have good chisels like I have seen some people use, but I feel like I would do a horrible job with them. My chisel usage is only for helping make joints fit better.

I got the roasted maple blank from Stewmac, the ebony fret blank from Exotic Wood Zone and the Mango from Australian Guitar Timbers. I bought several tops from them at once and they only charged me $35 to ship from Australia. That's where I got the Australian red gum for my Aggie Caster and the Camphor Laurel for my piezo only build.

The body on this guitar will be White Wenge, which I got from a local hardwood place. That stuff is gorgeous, but sooooo dense. I'm going to have to do something creative to lower the weight.

I belong to a local wood working place that has all the tools I need. I pay monthly to use anything I want. The fretboard I actually cut out and slotted with a handheld CNC they have called a Shaper Origin. It was crazy, no way I thought a handheld tool could cut that straight of a narrow line. Worked flawlessly. Here it is cutting out an Aggie cutting board for my brother. It reads the dominos to know where it is in space. You just have to push it anywhere near the line you are following and it corrects on the go.

It was my birthday this week, so I bought myself a present. Lava Studio amp. Digital modeling, tuner, metronome, looper, backing tracks, lessons, integrated touch screen. Pretty sweet.

Kinda like having the Spark app controls on an amp?

That was my question…..how does it compare to Spark?

Pretty much exactly. I do like not having to have my phone out. It has more features though. Like a mini DAW.
Like the Spark, the only negative I have experienced with it is these small amps try to make up for their size by being extra bassy, but that's easy to correct. It also has a line out that will plug into my main amp, so I get the modeling with the sound of my big amp.

Will it make a player sound better?

Sadly the Valeton GP-5 doesn't do that, but it is nice to test out all kinds of amps via NAM.

My newest Tele sure makes me feel better, so I win.

I did not like the Spark 50 I purchased for traveling. The Yamaha THR30 has MUCH better guitar tones, imo. The app doesn't have as much fluff, but it just sounds so much better. It doesn't have that boomy bass thing, that I loathe.

Guitars live in the upper midrange. I can't stand bassy guitar tone.

I bought a used Boss GX-100 late last year. I have played it a couple of times at church, and it sounds wonderful running straight into our soundboard. I don't have an amp at home, but I have used headphones on it.

The biggest thing for me has been using ChatGPT as a starting point for crafting particular tones in the Boss Tone Studio. It has been tremendously fun to play around with, and it makes my Michael Kelly telecaster and my MIJ Fender Strat sound amazing.

Actual guitar question. Tried my hand at intonating and had an issue with my Tremonti. Trying to set it up for Drop D. Every string but the low string I was good. I have it pulled all the way back and am still slightly sharp when I fret the string at the 12th fret. Am I missing something?

I had that happen on my Sire on the low E.

Guitar tech at the local music store was going to cut the spring shorter until he found a smaller spring in his parts cache.

He swapped in that smaller spring and it's still pulled way back but it intonated.

However…

If it's going to be a Drop D guitar would you really need that string well intonated at the 12th fret?

As mentioned above, you might get a shorter spring, or, you could try a lighter gauge string.

Somehow I kept my very first skate deck. A P&P Tony Hawk. Purchased brand new from Gadzooks at the mall around 1987. Not my actual deck in photo but same color scheme. mine is beat to s*** with scars from various stickers, rails, no rails, etc.

It pretty much would go from attic to attic, garage to garage, for years after my parents moved and I took whatever few things I had in my old room with me.

I hung it on a wall but used the colored string ends and string as the wiring.

Gadzooks. That's a name I haven't heard in a long time.

My notes and questions:

• Strings: Are your strings new or old? Older strings will affect intonation. If they are older, then try replacing the strings. What gauge are the strings? Are they the gauge that is recommended for that guitar? I've seen forum posts about certain PRS guitars that are made with certain string gauges in mind. For example, the DGT ships with 11's because that's what Grissom likes to use and the guitar was built around his specs. I've put 10's on mine, but I believe putting 9's on it may or may not throw my intonation out of whack.
• Neck Relief: What is yours set at? PRS guitars are mean to play fast and flat. If you have too much neck relief, that shortens your string lengths. Bring the neck as flat as you can without getting too much string buzz on the first 7-8 frets.
• String Height: What do you set your string heights to? PRS guitars, especially the Tremonti, is meant to be setup for speed. That means low action, probably lower than I like. I set my E string, on my Teles, to about 2mm, which is kind of high. • Where is your guitar when you are measuring and adjusting these things? You should have it seated on your lap like you're playing the guitar. Don't do these measurements on a work table with the guitar facing towards the sky. That's not how you play a guitar and flipping it the correct way will require slightly different adjustments to set everything correctly.
• ETA: Forgot that this was also a floating bridge. Make sure it isn't floating too high. I'd verify the PRS standard floating bridge height to make sure it isn't floating too high.

If none of that works, then i'd say there is probably some neck warping going on. Take it to a luthier and see what he thinks.

Just got offered two Tremontis for the Tribal that would value at around $10k. One is a 10 top that was played on stage by Chris Henderson from 3 Doors Down and the other was used by Tremonti in the studio for the most recent Alter Bridge album. That was a tough trade to turn down.
