That's awesome! This may be a stupid question but why wouldn't that guitar come with a hard case?

Only their core line guitars get hard shell cases. The S2 line is American made but is not considered part of their core offerings. Same with the current version of the CE.

Gotcha.

Just to add some value to this thread, I took guitar lessons for a couple years elementary to high school up and my dad vey kindly bought me with a PRS CE24 around 1999. I lost interest when I went to college and ended up selling it to Music Go Round (or some place like that) for far too little. I am very interested in playing the guitar but don't devote any time to practicing. I sure wish I still had that PRS, though.

You want to add some value, post a pic of that CE you just mentioned.

Somebody buys me a CE, there's gonna be pics. Even old school film pics.

I don't practice near as much as I should but I do keep them handy to grab when I want to play for a few minutes.

CE24s around that age can be had for $1500 or less. The older ones are considered core and should come with a PRS hard shell case. You just have to make sure as some people decide to sell them or keep them for themselves.

Those are awesome. I missed it was his contact info on the Instagram page?

Those would look sweet on my blue burst Axis.

He does good work and stains to match. I sent him some sunlight photos of the guitar and he sent me some pictures of different unfinished tuners he had so I could pick the set I wanted him to stain. Then he sent me some test boards he did so I could pick which of those I thought matched best. They're certainly not cheap at $210, but it's hand made and quality work. I may go back to him to get some back plates done.

Why? Why?!!!

So, a few days ago I decided to go up a string gauge on my Les Paul. The next day, I went to Guitar Center and traded my Boss Katana 100 Mk1 for the Mk2 version. Immediately nothing played or sounded the same. Everything was fine before but I just HAD to change it up. AAARRGH!

Fortunately the new Katana is coming around. It's going to be okay. But that's what happens when you're guitarded.

The pic you posted isn't displaying properly.

Sorry about the delay, I was out of town and forgot to follow up.

Another not new guitar in this thread, hopefully no one minds.

How do you like the Silver Sky? All of the review videos make me really want to try one.

I really like it. I'm a little bit of a PRS fanboy though. The pickups are really the star of the show. Would probably take it over most of the American factory Fenders I've played.

One thing to be aware of is the neck finish. Fender really has a nice feeling satin finish on their mid to upper range American guitars. The PRS is more glossy, and can feel a bit sticky. I know that bothers some people, never really was a big deal to me though. Could always sand the back of the neck down if you don't care about resale.

Instead of sanding, you can always dampen the rough side of a sponge and use that on the back of the neck. It will make it feel like a satin finish without sanding off too much of the neck. I did that on my Fender Original 60's strat.

I personally put Seymour Duncan antiquities in my strats, so never use the Fender stock pickups. Only one I do is my customer shop tele, but those pickups are absolutely amazing.

I tend to be a traditionalist, and just can't stand the PRS headstock on a strat style guitar. That would be my biggest hang-up, and main reason for not buying one. That, and I have two American Fender strats already, and love them both. One is my standard tuned and one is my Eb tuned.

BTW, I tuned my Original 60's Strat to Eb after watching this Rhett Shull vid... by god, he was right.

Yup, totally get that. Think the headstock was flipped as a tribute to Hendrix. Tough to be sure but I don't think the headstock has degraded the tone too much.

Rhett makes some great content.

Regarding the neck, like I mentioned, it doesn't really bother me. That was more aimed at a potential buyer. If you're A/Bing the PRS and a Fender and can't get the Silver Sky in hand, it is something that might matter as a differentiator.

Something I didn't mention is the knobs. They're made of some strange light plastic. They're grippy, and the pots feel quality, but the plastic feels kind of cheap. Could always replace them I guess, but just something else to be aware of.

Which model Silver Sky do you have? Doesn't look like the SE. You have one of the upper end models, yes?

The review videos on those have been impressive.
aggiecouch
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah, this is an older one, well as old as these get, non-SE. Preorded it just after they were announced.

I'm thinking sometime in the next year I'm going to have my purple Singlecut refinished in Northern Lights. Only debate now is whether to go full out and send it to PRS to do it or go with somebody else. I know Wilkinson is highly thought of.

I'm intrigued by the SE model. Then of course I think, why not go with a fender in that price range. Don't think I want to jump up to the core version.

I need help, stat.

It looks like I'm going to be in Houston tomorrow. What are the cool stores to go to there? I know about Rockin Robin Guitars (from the good old days) but other than that I could use some recs.

This shop was recommended to me. I haven't been yet but plan to visit!

Robin has a couple of actual old Robin guitars hanging from the ceiling. I would like to try one but still can't decide if they want to sell guitars or display them like a museum.

I do like checking the Robin Reverb page.

Houston or Houston adjacent? I like Danny D's but it's about 30-45 minutes southeast.
