Saw the proposal episode tonight from season 7. Funny as hell and endearing.

Oscar: Will you marry me?
Holly: No
Michael: yeah that marriage would have been a sham

Gabe: Will you marry me?
Holly: No
Michael: really easy choice

Angela: Will you marry me?
Holly: No
Michael: Hot, I'd pay to see that

When Michael is writing words in gasoline in the parking lot:

Pam: "Michael, you've had 2 ideas today, and one of them is great and one of them is terrible."

Michael: "I'm not in the mood for riddles, Pam..."

How many here are fans of the UK Office? Always heard it was better, but just watched the first couple episodes and have to disagree. It's not that funny and just don't care about any of the characters.

I found it hilarious, but it's definitely not as mainstream as the American version

I watched three episodes of it. Not my cup of tea, but that doesn't mean it's bad.

Another thing is I can't stand Ricky Gervais. I know a lot of people love him and think he's great, but he is just annoying to me.

Well if you found Steve Carroll annoying then you wouldn't enjoy the American version either.

I like Steve Carell and I think the American version is one of the greatest shows ever made.

You're missing the point.

You not enjoying the British version is more about you not liking the main character of the show and less about the quality of the show

I don't really care for any of the characters, but it's not so much David Brent as it is Ricky Gervais. I don't like him in anything he has done.

Dwight: Store only has three employees.
Michael: So what?
Dwight: It means they're not expanding.
Michael: Maybe they are shrinking.
Dwight: No.
Michael: They could be shrinking.
Dwight: No, because their sign is centered perfectly above the store. No sign of the sign being moved.
Michael: Ah ha.
Dwight: Its lunch time, and no sign of anyone coming in or out, which means they are not taking new customers out to lunch, which means they're not acquiring new business. So once again, no growth.
Michael: Yeah and there are clouds...clouds in the sky. Means it's gonna rain, bad for business.
Dwight: Well it would if they were altocumulus and not cirrostratus.
Michael: Why are you all...
Dwight: Michael, get your clouds right, pfft.

Oral history about Dwight vs Andy for manager. Figured I'd post here since it came up in this thread a while back.
Picked up the book and started reading. Have only gotten to the point where Ricky is meeting with Greg Daniels about doing an American version of the show. Enjoying it so far.

I think the book has been great. At the point where Michael leaves. Recommend it to anyone that is a fan of the show.

My son read Rainn Wilson's book, "The Bassoon King" and he said that Mindy Kaling is the worst human being in the world.

Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsley on the office ladies podcast seem to love her. Don't know what the deal is. Based on that book, Wilson is a strange bird.

I think he was probably joking and that's just his sense of humor. From a quick google search, they seem to have a lot of fun interactions on twitter.

UK office is very different humor. It's way cringier and David Brent is waaaay harder to like than Michael. You could always kinda root for Michael but it's rarely easy to do that for Brent.

The episode (that ironically was playing on Comedy Central today) entitled "Lecture Circuit" is taken from the British version, and its some of the most cringeworthy, gives you goosebumps, awkward you will ever feel. I have trouble even thinking about it without getting the squirms. Imagine 3 full seasons of "Scott's Tots" and you have the British version. It's brilliant but way different

i love both versions of the show so much, with a significant nod going to the American version. They are completely different , with the exception of the first season of our version. You can tell that they were REALLY trying to emulate the Brit version, but by Season 2 they found their legs and took off.

The training episode (maybe episode 4 of the first season?) of the UK version is where I got hooked. The US version copied it in the diversity episode, but Gervais' interactions with the trainer in the UK version are so genius.

The office ladies podcast kinda covers this. Apparently, Gervais said that it's nearly impossible to get fired in GB, and that it wouldn't translate for American audiences because of how our professional society operates. Gervais said they had to make Michael Scott likeable, and show flashes of him being a good salesman despite his otherwise incompetence for American audiences to buy into him keeping his job.

I just started listening to that podcast last night. As soon as they mentioned the whole being bad at your job in the UK thing, that's when I realized why I didn't like the UK office.

I believe this quote was mentioned earlier, but during The Deposition when the stenographer reads back Michael's "that's what she said" quote, and he says "she's butchering it. The delivery's all wrong."

That's my favorite quote of the series, at least for Michael.

It sums him up so well. Comedy is so important to him that even in a room with attorneys and higher-ups and the chance that his girlfriend could make a case to win a $4 million lawsuit, he can't stop himself from analyzing that line delivery.

So good.

There was also the part of the deposition when Michael asks to go to the bathroom and admits that the time he asked before was to get out of a question.

Then the classic Michael / Toby interactions. Toby laughing when the diary is talking about a possible other secret lover Ryan. And Toby trying to comfort Michael with his childhood custody battle story. Michael seems to appreciate it and finally warm up to Toby, then:

Pam calling Nate to set an appointment with Dwight who is sitting right across from her:

Pam: Hi Nate. It's Pam Halpert.

Nate: Oh hey Pam.

Pam: Hey, I would just love to schedule a meeting today with Dwight

Nate: Let me put you on hold for just one eensy second....(Calls Dwight)

Dwight: Dwight Schrute. Mhm..... Tell her I'm busy. I don't know, make something up.

Nate: Hey Pam. Dwight's being questioned by the police in connection with a string of dog-nappings that...(Pam hangs up)
