I'm not talking about people giving real insight on what they thought was lacking or why it didn't register with them. But the last few pages here have become "it was overrated because it's Scorsese" or " there was no story/plot" or "I'm glad someone else didn't like it so now I can say that too", which does not make for good discussion.

*edit to say "good" discussion
I'm glad someone else dislikes all message board discussions in the history of the internet so now I can say that too.

maybe just watch it and form your own opinion?
I don't have time to watch every movie/show that I'm somewhat interested in to form my own opinion. I'd rather get a heads up before I waste my time on something mediocre.
Scorsese has been making movies for 40+ years, Pacino, Deniro, and Pesci acting for 40-50 years. There are probably 100 professional reviews on the internet and 6 pages of replies here before you asked if you should have avoid it. How much spoon feeding is required?
I wasn't aware of The Irishman until I saw the 10 second preview on Netflix as I was scrolling by. My wife is not into mob movies, so I was planning on watching it later when I had time, because I typically like Scorsese movies. Since it was already released, I avoided this thread out of spoiler fear.

But then I get a suggested Google story saying it's terrible. Since professional reviewers are pompous morons who have less than 1% of the talent of a guy like Scorsese, I came here to get the opinion of regular Joe's (who are likely Scorsese fans). But I still don't want to read the entire thread and get spoiled. I was just asking a simple question and am only reading replies to me.

Not really.

The Last Jedi had genuine hate from people who saw it. I was one of them. There were detailed discussions of what people felt was wrong with that film. And it did get heated.

This movie? There are some who genuinely didn't like it, but the majority seems to be "good, not great." Very few people are expressing regret having watched it; just that they probably wouldn't watch it again. I'm still only one hour into it and am having trouble finding the desire to continue. I was hoping to read from others on this thread that it's worth going back to it. I'm not finding much encouragement, but I'm sure I will just so that I can form a complete opinion.

Many people were wanting to burn the negatives of The Last Jedi and have another writer/director re-do it from scratch.

I didn't realize until 2/3 of the way through this that this is based on the book "I Heard You Paint Houses" that I read almost 20 yrs ago.

Second 2/3 of the movie is definitely better. Stick it out.

I said this before, but if a Scorsese directed mob movie starring Pacina, Deniro, and Pesci doesn't already interest you enough to see it without being told you should see it then you probably won't like it.

Damn it. I bet my dad a dollar over Thanksgiving that The Irishman WOULDN'T win Best Picture. I wanted to bet $100, but he wouldn't go that far. That said, he swears it's winning Best Picture, even though he knows next to nothing about the industry, and if it does I will never hear the end of it. He did the same thing immediately after Johnny's very first game against Florida. Made this bold proclamation that he was winning the Heisman that year. We all made fun of him and he still lets us know how right he was to this day.

You do know that this is a Scorsese movie, right? It could star Rupaul, The Boz and Keanu Reeves and the chances of it being "terrible" are still about 0.00001%.

That's essentially what I was trying to say. You shouldn't need to do research on people's opinions and read articles from the new york suck my **** post to decide whether or not to watch a Scorsese movie starring a cast like this...

I get it this movie isn't for everyone, but I would watch those 3 actors and Scorsese sitting on a porch talking about literally nothing for 3 and a half hours and still feel like it wasn't a waste of my time.

I would too, but I'd also go in knowing I'm watching those 4 sit on a porch talking about nothing. Scorcese was trying to make a good movie and it wasn't very good.

I feel like there's a bias against Netflix. Everyone thought Roma would win and look what happened.

That said, it does feel like there's been a huge Irishman surge in the last week or two.
