It's pointless to argue about the Oscars - as the Old Hollywood adage goes, "nobody knows anything."

What we can say with confidence, however, is that the demographics of Oscar voters are changing rapidly and irrevocably. This is an extremely welcome development for Diversity, and this year hopefully bodes well for Green Book.

Concerning Black Panther:
In my opinion, Diversity is the only thing Marvel does correctly. I am far more a fan of Justice League, and Snyder. There's plenty of YouTube videos that do a great job detailing why Batman v. Superman is great and massively under-appreciated...mentioned by me here due to the atrocious tastes and takes constantly on putrid display.

Edit: all DC adaptations have been either triples or homeuns. Snyder deserves a nomination more than anyone on this year's list, including Farelly who is finally addressing Social Justice in his work.

Black Panther was ok. Just ok. It was always going to be on this list though purely for political and virtue signaling reasons. It's so blatantly an affirmative action pick that it seems insulting to me for even being on this list.

It's the only one of the Best Picture list that I've seen and if it's truly in that category than that tells me this is a bad crop of nominees (I realize this probably isn't true with the other movies.)

It's clear to me why Vice is on there as well. It's a movie that has received ok reviews. Good movie; nothing great.

Really wanting to see Spiderverse though. Sounds great.

That is a bold statement there.

that said.

I LOVE Watchmen, especially the extended version with the animated side stories as well.

Other than horrible casting for Ozymandias, I think that is as perfect an adaption as you can make.

First cbm best picture nomination goes to black Panther. Everyone knows why even the SJWs on reddit.

There were so many other cbm over the last 15 years more deserving of a best picture nomination (The Dark Knight for example or spider verse this year).

Name one person who has seen Slumdog Millionaire this decade.

That's right, no one.

Zero cultural influence whatsoever.

The fact that it won and TDK wasn't nominated is probably the worst Oscar crime of my adult lifetime.

Still think Fallout should have at least gotten a technical nomination. Cinematography and Screenplay should have have been strong considerations for it too.

Black Panther was the 3rd best MCU movie in 2018.

No. Saving Private Ryan losing to that stupid Shakespeare movie with Ben ****ing Affleck was much worse.

My Senior English teacher said it best. "Saving Private Ryan is probably one of the top 5 war films of all time. It lost to one of the best 5 films of the year"

Watched it last year and think it's a better movie than The Dark Knight, which I doubt I've seen in the last decade.

And one more thing. Toni Collette's performance blew each and every single one of these out of the water.

The Dark Knight not being nominated is a crime, but it changed the Oscars forever. The following year, they changed from 5 nominees to up to 10 nominees. The Dark Knight was sacrificed, so that movies like Black Panther could thrive.

I think we will get more comic book nominees in the near future. Maybe even next year with Todd Phillips/Joaquin Phoenix's Joker movie.

It was a small role. He maybe had five minutes of screen time.

FYI, I just watched one of the Best Documentary nominees called Minding The Gap on Hulu and it was fantastic. Highly recommend it.

I've seen Shakespeare in Love many, many times. It is a fantastic movie and one of my all-time favorites.

But... Saving Private Ryan absolutely should have won the Oscar. No question.

In his defense, it was an Oscar-winning performance compared to his portrayal of Bruce Wayne and Batman.

Good.

Sorry but putting Cinematography off the air was a ****ing travesty. Just do a couple less montages or other extremely circle jerky type stuff that they do.

My Best Picture Rankings so far are as follows:

Roma

---A Big Gap

Black Panther
BlacKKKlansman
A Star is Born

I felt this tier was all pretty equal. I was listening Black Panther a bit lower but I went back and gave it a rewatch and its just a damn great movie.

Another Gap

Vice - good, but not as good as The Big Short. Maybe unfair to compare the two. Some good acting though.

Another Gap

Bohemian Rhapsody
Green Book

These last two aren't bad, but I enjoyed other movies way more than these this year. Really don't think they belong. Like I said, these are not bad movies but definitely a lot of other movies (Hereditary, Widows just to name two) that were more deserving.

I'm seeing the Favorite tonight. Hopefully that lives up to the hype. I can't remember the last time I saw all the nominees in this category. This year seems incredibly accessible for moviegoers.

So anyone think any major upsets happen?

Can Rami Malek beat out Christian Bale? Does anyone have a shot against Glenn Close?

Does anything besides Roma have a shot at Best Picture?

Uhhh Rami malek is the favorite.
